Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez
On Falling Behind In The First Half
“You think you're ready and I guess we weren't ready. We started okay I felt, the first goal is something we need to deal with, from the defensive side and goalkeeping side, but that shouldn't dictate the game. On the second goal off the corner kick we didn't challenge, then they scored another goal off a corner kick and we take pride in our set pieces. The third goal they scored I think was quality, at some point a good team is going to score good goals and create good chances. We just weren't good enough that's for sure.”
On How The Team Started The Game
“I think it's a combination of that (Pac-12 opener, California ranked No. 12). You know we played the best team we have played to date and we didn't respond. Like I told the team this is how every Pac-12 game is going to be, if you look at the results across the league last night, nobody's going to run away with the league this year. So we have to regroup tomorrow, and it doesn't get any easier at USC and UCLA next weekend. We did score a couple of goals late, but to be fair to California I think they dialed off a little bit. But having said that we scored a couple of goals, and we had a couple of good chances to make it 4-2. But we just weren't good enough today.”
On The Play When Colorado Scored Their Two Goals In 10 Minutes
“I don't know if it was anything different, I think we just scored. I don't think there was anything drastically different in what we did. I mean we were pressing up a little bit, but like I said I'm sure California relaxed a little bit. Those are options we had in the first half too, when it was 1-0 or 0-0. There just wasn't enough urgency at the beginning of the game. When you fall behind a team like that there's not a lot of chance to get back into it. We gave ourselves a fighting chance, but at the end of the day we weren't good enough like I said.”
Preparing For The Next Five Games On The Road
“Sometimes it's okay to be on the road. I think sometimes, we don't jump into environments where they are hostile in this league. So maybe it's good to get on the road, and refocus. I think we have to go back to the mindset that we are the underdogs and have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, I think we came out with that today.”
Colorado Forward Madison Krauser
On Getting Back On The Field
“It's been hard, just kind of getting back in shape with everything. But it feels really great to get back out on the field, I definitely missed it. I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things. Trying to get back into the chemistry of the team. I just have to find my play again.”
On Playing Against California In Her First Game Back
“I was hoping to be back last week against San Francisco. When I found out I was going to be out another week, I thought, against California getting just thrown back into the game. It was tough, but I think our coaches definitely prepared us for it. Especially me, with all the extra work I've had to put in.”
Madison About The Communication With Her Teammates
"It's been a little hard. I think that everyone has been really great with me getting back, and getting into it. It's going well.”
On How Much Practice She Has Had Leading Up To The Game
“Just this week, I only had the one week. But I've been doing a lot of outside stuff with the assistant coaches. That's definitely helped me with getting my skills ready.”
On Getting Better Going Forward
“I think it's just going to take me a couple more games to get back into the swing of things.”
