CU-Kansas Quotes

Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez
Thoughts On The Match
“Well first of all it was a very good game, I thought it was end to end action. I think both teams had chances to win it. It's disappointing in a sense that we didn't win, but that doesn't take away from, compared to last weekend we played much better. Obviously Kansas is a very good team, that's why they're undefeated. It's disappointing to lose at home, and lose in that fashion. That's of the nature of the match, we didn't do enough when it mattered and they scored a good goal. And we left their best player alone, we can't do that. But like I told the team, the silver lining to this, is that we get to play again Sunday at 1 o'clock. So we have an opportunity to get back at it, unlike other sports where you have to wait one to two weeks. We have the opportunity in less than 48 hours to get back at it, so we'll get focused, get good sharp training in, and watch some film tomorrow we'll get back at it on Sunday.”
On Kansas Jayhawk Liana Salazar
“The only thing I said to the team at halftime was good players it doesn't matter, all they need is one opportunity, they don't have to be involved all the time. She's not the type of player that's going to be involved all the time.
On The Final Goal
“There were other things that led up to that piece. We just weren't sharp enough, especially at the beginning of overtime. We weren't playing with enough composure to keep the ball and get out of pressure. So we have to do better on Sunday.”
On Improving Goal Production
“At this point I think things just have to fall for us a little bit. It's not making excuses for anyone, but I think that we have had those opportunities that just aren't going in. We just need to get better. I think it's confidence, it's momentum and right now were struggling a little bit in that area. But that's the hardest thing to do. At least we are getting into those opportunities, we had a lot of corner kicks today and we had a lot of dangerous set pieces and it just didn't happen. But to be fair they had just as many opportunities as we did.”
On The Play Of Goalkeeper Kate Scheele and Having Her Play Up For Free Kicks
“She's a good ball striker, and it is dangerous, and you don't want to do it all the time. Especially when you're losing late it can become dangerous. But I felt that Kate made a really good save at the end of the game, right after we got the tying goal that could have been it then. She kept us in the game when it mattered. But we just didn't have enough going forward, really in overtime. I don't think we did enough.”
On Using Scheele In Free Kick Sets During Conference Play
“I'm up for anything, whatever works so we will see.”
Colorado Goalkeeper Kate Scheele
On Giving Up Two Goals
“I mean there's always something you think you can do, absolutely. It was an unfortunate situation and anytime you go into overtime it's going to be a battle. Sometimes you don't get the result you want.”
On The Final Play
“It was a decent cross, and the back post was open. That shouldn't happen, but sometimes it does because we were looking to be more aggressive. Going forward we were trying to get that goal ourselves. So we're bound to have some kind of breakdowns, and I think in the end it cost us, but next time we will be better.”
On If The Team Might Have Been Playing On Its Heels
“Yes and no. We tried something a little bit different and I think it made us more defensively minded. We did well I think just in general, and just we have a lot of learning points, but there's some good things to come from that.”
On The First Goal Given Up
“It's always hard because we have such a good strong backline. It's hard to judge when to come and when to stay. But you know in the end, it was a goal and it shouldn't have been.”
On The Team's Confidence
“I think today we are actually coming off this with a positive look. We get to play on Sunday, and we're biting at the bit to get back out there. I think overall our morale is good.”
On Her Aggressive Play
“It depends on who we're playing and what style we are looking for in each game, also what style each goalkeeper plays. I'm a little bit more of a high player. I like to be off my line a little bit more and attack the field. I think depending on the situation that can be a positive or a negative and we just have to adjust to the situation.”
On Coach Sanchez Having Her Take Free Kicks
“I've been doing it since freshmen year. I always have. I feel comfortable doing it. I don't think they would send me out there if I wasn't. They're looking to get that ball inside that six, so we can get a good opportunity.”
