CU-Detroit Quotes

Colorado Head Coach Danny Sanchez

“Friday was a game that could have gone either way and we knew it was going to be a tough game. So we knew we needed to come out today and play well and I thought we did. Especially in stretches, we were able to get all of our players in which I thought was key in the first half, again a lot of subs in. It's a little warm, it's a Sunday game so the legs are going to go a little bit quicker and I thought getting some fresh legs and an early goal from Carly was a key for the match. It's always good to win. This is team that lost to DU one to nothing with 50 seconds to go on Friday so we knew that they're tough to score on. So, I thought our goals were quality today.”

On Carly Bolyard's Performance
“I think she [Carly Bolyard] is playing with a lot of confidence. She had that injury half way through her sophomore year so it took her a while in her junior year but I thought that towards the end of last year, she was playing really well. She scored that goal for us in the NCAA Tournament against BYU so I think for the first time in her career here, she's her most fit and playing with a lot of confidence. I think a lot of times, soccer wise, that's the key so we challenged her in the off season that she hasn't had her best moments yet and so far, so good. We're going to need her the same amount if not more down the road. I think she is quality. She's a good player and like I said, she's in good form right now. So, we want to continue to build off of that. We know we're not going to get as many opportunities [to score in PAC-12 play] but sometimes you only get three or four but you score two. So, the one thing that I did like about our goals today is that they were all good quality.”

On The Team's Response To Friday's Loss Against Kansas
“Obviously it was disappointing on Friday, so what I told them and what I told you guys is that it's good to get back and play. I thought we responded well. The Sunday game is dangerous and we haven't played well on Sundays so I thought today was our first good performance on a Sunday where I felt that there was some very good stretches where we played good soccer and created good chances and were smart defensively. We only gave up a couple of chances at the end of the game so, I'm pleased.”

On The Buildup Before The Goals
“I think that a little more patience, and once again to be fair to Detroit, they had a very hard game as well on Friday and subbed a lot then. So, we knew if we kept the tempo up, there would be spaces to be had. I liked our buildup, I liked our patience in the final third, I liked that we got a lot of corners at the end of the game and almost scored on a couple of them. So, it was a good performance but it's all about Denver next Friday. I think we needed it [the win] and we got it. So, there's no easy way to win. You can look at names and you can look at teams but there's no easy wins anywhere. We're glad we got the win but this is a huge week for us in regards to the Colorado Cup and obviously Denver is a big rival for us. So, I expect a big crowd and good energy next Friday.”

Colorado Midfielder Carly Bolyard

General

“It was just great. It's always good to score early and score fast. We wanted to come out on a Sunday, we're all tired and it's a Sunday match, and we just wanted to come out and show our stuff.”

On The Past Two Losses
“It motivated us a lot. We just wanted to get one 90 minute game all together.”

On The Three Goals Today
“We are capable of so much and it was nice to actually see it on the field.”

On Losing To Kansas
“We knew we could beat KU but we just didn't show it. We didn't put everything together so we wanted to just come out with energy and put it all together.”

On Getting A Chance To Play
“It's great. It's fun. It's just nice to actually play the way I can play. There's been nothing preventing me. I got injured sophomore year; coming back from an ACL was difficult but it was a journey and battle and a challenge and I overcame it so it was good to see.”

On Previous Players And Role Models
“It was hard to get my opportunities but they [previous players] were great role models to me. Every time I was on the field with them, they knew what they were doing and I just wanted to follow what they were doing.”

On Team Leadership
“I'm more confident as a senior and I want to be a leader on this team.It feels great [to take a leadership role]. I've always wanted to be a senior leader and show, be on the team, lead the team. It's good. It feels good.”
