Colorado-UCLA Quotes

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
"I'm really proud with the last thirty minutes of that game. We definitely turned a corner with how we play, playing together, our confidence and our fight. You have to give UCLA a lot of credit. Cori [Close] has done a tremendous job there. They've recruited really well and it's tough to have a lot of freshmen on the floor at any one time, and they have found ways to win. They've played a tough schedule, so give them credit, but I like the fight in our team. I liked how we competed. It was just the matter of a slow start and being tentative to come out. We were fighting back the entire time, but didn't have enough at the end to be able to win."
On The Slow Start
"I think you have to look at the positive, and we have. We have to use this as momentum. I loved how we came out in the second half. It was the best second half we've had coming out of the gates so far this season. We're going to use that going into the next game and be able to use it. We finally found our groove and it was fun to see players step up on both ends of the floor. It really came down to rebounding. UCLA is tenacious under the glass and we probably needed two more defensive rebounds to be able to win today."
On Jamee Swan's Late Foul
"It was a tough call. You have to call something. I probably should have called a timeout with Jamee being on the fast break, but she's a player. Sometimes you don't always know what she'll be able to do and sometimes she does something you've never seen her do before because she's that kind of player. She was being aggressive and was doing a good job. I really liked how she moved forward after that play, I didn't think that she carried that into the timeout, but it was a really tough call for us. I easily could have called a timeout, so I'll take the blame for that. It was one play in a game that had a lot of plays, a lot of shots and a lot of calls. It wasn't the game for sure."
On UCLA's Press
"We're always ready for the press, every team presses us. So we face the press pretty much every possession each game, so we're pretty used to it. In spurts we did a fantastic job at handling it, but for us it was about getting defensive stops because then we could go in transition and not face the press. I thought we did better than we have been at handling the press, we had a few key turnovers, but I liked how aggressive we were in attacking the press today."
On The Play Of Lexy Kresl
"I'm really proud of how Lexy played today. She hadn't knocked down many three point shots for a while, so it was good for her to get on a roll in the first half. It was also good for her to play 37 minutes and be the point against pressure and play solid defense was key. What she brought to our team today was really inspirational."

On Getting Open Shots Against The Zone
"Its a lot about moving without the ball and trying to find the open gaps. I feel that we as a team did that, and people with the open ball were finding the open players and those players were able to knock the shots down."

On Getting Open Shots Against The Zone
"I think to start, we were really attacking the press. They were having trouble guarding us in the middle and so we definitely had those easy points. They zoned a lot, but a lot of times I think they kind of get lost in the zone. So there were times when [F] Jen [Resse] would be on the short corner and she hit that shot over and over again because they just weren't able to adjust. And then they [UCLA] would lose our shooters on the wings and stuff. I definitely think there were some great holes that we were taking advantage of."
