Colorado Coach Linda Lappe
On The Performance of Post Players
"Our post may not have scored a lot of points for us tonight but they did a nice job, like you said, defending. We talked a lot about how we were going to stop Taryn Wicijowski, she obviously hurt us at our place, we wanted to do some different things on her. Jamee Swan did a nice job. Zoe Correal did a nice job as well. Just the way that we doubled team, it was there every time, a defender could really count on that double. I think we just caused her [Wicijowski] to think. And anytime you make players think, good things happen for you defensively. I also thought the post did a nice job of screening. We thought that was going to be a huge part of the game because we knew their players were going to be swaging off of our non-shooters, so they had to be great screeners."
On Slowing Down Point Guard Danielle Rodriguez
"We knew she was going to come out. You try and guess what they're going to change. One of the things that we knew they were going to have to do in order to play with us; she would have to get going. We talked a lot about her coming in. We knew she was going to be a lot more aggressive, and she was. She's a nice player and did a nice job but I thought we did a really nice job limiting her looks."
On Confidence Throughout Tonight's Game
"I thought our players made some nice adjustments coming out of the second half. We talked a lot about just moving the basketball; in wasn't rocket science. We were just going one on one a little too much offensively in the first half. Letting their defense get set when we didn't need to. The second half we put the pressure on them. We got stops, we got some easy baskets in transition, and we wore them down. I think a lot of our confidence has to do with us just playing and playing together. And when we do that we have really good players, we have a good offense, a good defense. I think the other thing is our bench. Our bench in the last couple of games has really come and helped us so our starters don't have to come and play 35 to 40 minutes a game. Both of those things are huge keys. Just the confidence that we continue to build is going to be really important and we want to keep this thing going."
On What to Worry About Going Into The Next Conference Game
"Mostly we are worrying about ourselves; we have stopped worrying about what other teams are doing because we do what we are going to do and we cant try to be someone that we're not. When we got that five-point lead we weren't okay with that, we wanted to continue to build it. We had a different look in our eye tonight, especially in that one segment in the second half, hit some shots, which got everyone else relaxed and going. It really had a snowball affect on us offensively. Defensively we were tough all night long but the difference was being able to get something going offensively."
Colorado Player Lauren Huggins
On Finding Her Shot
"It felt really good. My teammates were putting me in really good positions, setting really good screens. Coach Lappe and Coach Carey told me, 'Just get your feet ready, have your hands ready, and knock them down.' That's exactly what happened."
On Team and Personal Success
"First, I think it starts with defense. When we can bear down and get stops, it creates energy and we always want to use that momentum towards our offensive play. We were just calm, cool, and collective while moving and sharing the ball. None of us really cared who took the shot as long as it was an open player. I think when we have that mentality we are pretty unstoppable."
On Difference In Tonight's Performance
"Our bench did a really great job tonight; obviously on the road it's tough. You have to create your own energy, having no fan base behind you. I think feeding off the energy of our coaches and the people on the floor, as well with the people on the bench, really just made us want to bear down and continue to push that lead, along with playing great defense."
