CU's Liufau Throws For 2 Scores, Runs For 2 In Loss
October 18, 2015 | Football
BOULDER — In the wake of a 38-31 loss to Arizona, Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre said he thought the Buffs' offense "had their best overall game of the year against a talented defense."
CU quarterback Sefo Liufau threw for 339 yards — his second-highest total of the year — and two touchdowns, including a 72-yard scoring pass to Shay Fields for the Buffs' first touchdown of the evening. Liufau, who has been nursing a sore shoulder since the third game of the year, appeared to be the healthiest he's been in weeks.
"I just think I'm healthier now and I have been able to practice more, which definitely helps the rhythm of the game and being on time with everyone," said Liufau. "It has been a goal of mine to get this offense kickstarted in the beginning of each half."
Liufau also ran for two touchdowns. The first came near the end of the second quarter, when his 2-yard scoring run tied the game at 17-17. The second came on CU's opening possession of the third quarter, when his 4-yard touchdown run lifted the Buffaloes to a 24-17 lead.
"I thought he made a lot of good plays and did some good things for us," MacIntyre said.
Liufau also had a 30-yard touchdown pass to Fields with 2:19 left in the game to pull the Buffs to within seven, 38-31.
"We have a team of fighters," said Liufau. "It sucks to lose but we never quit and we will come back and work tomorrow."
"The good thing is we have another game next Saturday and those kids will bounce back and keep striving," said MacIntyre. "You can almost taste it."
