Colorado Postgame Notes

Tonight's Captains: Awuzie, Liufau, Nembot, Olugbode
Players who carried out CU's symbolic instruments tonight:
Sledgehammer:
Christian Powell
Toolbox: none
Special Teams Belt: Alex Kinney
Buffalo Head: Samson Kafovalu
United States Flag Christian Shaver
Colorado Flag: Robert Orban

QUICKLY  Oregon State now leads the series by a 5-3 count (1-1 in Corvallis, 3-1 in the state of Oregon where the Buffs are now 3-8 all-time; CU snapped a five-game losing streak in the state since its last win: Sept. 23, 1967 at Oregon in the first game ever at Autzen Stadium)… CU snapped a 14-game losing streak in Pac-12 conference games and a 13-game road losing streak in league games as well (last win was a 35-34 win at Washington State on Sept. 22, 2012) … The 13 points are the fewest CU has allowed in a Pac-12 game since joining the league in 2011; previous low came in a 17-14 win at Utah on Nov. 25, 2011 (thus ends a run of 30 straight games where Pac-12 teams scored 20 or more points).

Colorado wore gold helmets, white uniforms and gold pants for the first time this season (and for the first time since Sept. 6, 2014 at Massachusetts) … This was CU's first game as a member of the Pac-12 (out of six trips) at the Pacific Northwest schools closest to the coast (Oregon State, Oregon, Washington) where it did not rain during the game … The game was tied for 31:47, the longest CU has been tied with an opponent in a game this season (previous: 24:46 vs. Colorado State) … CU has scored in 11 straight quarters until being shut out in the third; the Buffs have scored in 27 of 32 quarters this season.

Colorado scored on its first possession for the third time this year, to go with touchdowns against UMass and Nicholls State … OSU gained 401 yards on 73 plays, but its eight plays of 20 yards or longer added to 210 yards, thus it gained 52 percent of its yards on 11 percent of its plays (the other 65 netted 191 total) …

OG Shane Callahan and TB Patrick Carr made their first career starts tonight; S Jered Bell made his first since 2013.

CU now has at least one interception in seven of eight games this season and has 10 total … CU was 13-of-13 on 3rd-&-1 this year until the run ended on  its ninth possession of the game … Colorado's first down defense was some of its best in recent memory, holding the Beavers to 3.0 (88 yards on 29 plays), including 4-of-13 passing for a net 20 yards (with two sacks).

INDIVIDUAL LINER NOTES

WR Nelson Spruce (6-60, 1 TD).  He continued to add to his school marks in career receptions (256) and yards (2,857).  He moved into third all-time in the Pac-12 in receptions, just four shy of the top spot.  He still is chasing CU's career TD mark (he has 21, one shy of McKnight's record), and he has caught at least one pass in 33 straight games (multiple in 28 straight).

CB Chidobe Awuzie.  He sealed the win with his second interception of the season (and career); he also recorded a sack for a third straight game, giving him five for his career, third-most by any DB in school history.

QB Sefo Liufau (23-16-0, 140, 1 TD).  He did not move up any notches of any of CU's all-time lists, but positioned himself to next week.  He did extend his streak without an interception to 98, the second longest of his career and tied for the eighth longest at CU.  He has just three this season in 261 attempts.

--He entered the season without scoring a rushing TD in his career, but now has five this year; that's the most scored in a season by CU quarterback since 2006 (7, Bernard Jackson).
