Oregon State-Colorado Quotes
Colorado Head Coach Liz Kritza
On Being Resilient as a Team
“I think that's the magic word: resilient. This team (Oregon State) is coming off some very strong matches against two of the top teams in the league, and so that gives them some confidence. They're playing well; their starting setter returned back to their offense. We expected a battle, but this is a tough match for us. I think any time we have an opportunity to learn a lesson and prove what this team is made of, I think it's a positive. Obviously I love the win; I'm really proud of how my players and how this program ran tonight. I think these kids did a great job; they came through when we needed to -- when it was difficult – which is the case a lot of nights. They answered the bell. They came back and did what they needed to and took care of business, and showed what they've been taught and the types of players they are. I'm really proud of them.”
On Career Night of Alexis Austin
“I think her response is a perfect sign of her humility; she doesn't keep track of those things. That's why she's been such a mainstay in the offense. To be the career kills leader in the rally-scoring era is pretty significant. Being halfway through the Pac-12 season of her senior year, which says something about Alexis and her commitment to the program and how she developed. Year after year her kills per set have improved, her hitting percentage has improved, and she's carrying a huge load. You can tell that when we talk about any of the individual accolades, this team and this group of players gets it. The strength is in the team and there's nothing more important than this group of players fighting every night for each other. I'm really proud of Alexis.”
On Challenge of Quick Turnaround
“We never shied away from a challenge and we won't shy away from this either. We played more sets, more attacks, and more jumping than we cared to, but this is the game. Playing in the Pac-12 means playing one tough opponent after another. We'll turnaround, we'll rest, we'll recover, and we'll prepare. We've got another really strong team coming in here. They're coming in here wanting to exact some revenge as well. We swept them on the road and had our first win at their place, and I guarantee that they'll be ready. I'm even more confident and more certain in my players that we will be ready. If there's anything that I know about these kids is that they have a backbone. They learned from some really good people to continue to rise and continue to fight, and we will. They'll be back and ready to go tomorrow.”
Colorado Players
On her new record
"Honestly I didn't even know until now. I was just really focused. Tonight is great; I feel that for the last four years every time we play Oregon State that is my best game. Tonight I made it a must to capitalize on that and find that opportunity. When we first started out, I thought, 'maybe not, I'll just do my best for the team,' and then it just came along as I kept fighting. I felt like tonight was definitely a great night, on my behalf, and as a team. To be honest, I can't do it without them."
On losing set four and gathering the team to win set five
We had a couple of times where we had a lead and we let go. We just talked about making sure that we are fighting, and we're doing it together; and that we are taking control of the rhythm of the play. That's what we talked about and focused on. We just made sure we were on the same page and zeroed in on the goal.
