Week Ahead: Buffs Women, Men On Road To Meet Rams
November 30, 2015 | Football, Neill Woelk
BOULDER — Rivalry will be the word of the week for the Colorado men's and women's basketball teams, as both have trips to Fort Collins to take on in-state rival Colorado State.
Both squads have a pair of games on tap this week, with the men at home once and the women on the road for both affairs.
Here's a breakdown of the week ahead:
CU MEN: Tad Boyle's crew will attempt to build on its current five-game winning streak Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game vs. Fort Lewis at the Coors Events Center (Pac-12 Networks) before traveling to Fort Collins on Sunday for a noon game against Colorado State.
Fort Lewis brings a 5-0 record to Boulder that includes wins over West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico, and the Skyhawks also won at Wyoming in an exhibition game. The game will also mark a “goodbye” of sorts for Skyhawks head coach emeritus Bob Hofman, a former Buffs player and assistant coach who went on to enjoy an ultra-successful coaching career, including 20 years at Fort Lewis, where he produced seven NCAA Div. II Tournament berths.
Sunday, the Buffs will almost certainly face their most hostile crowd of the season to date when they face CSU at Moby Arena in game to be televised by Root Sports.
Colorado leads the all-time series, 88-37, and has a 36-27 edge in Fort Collins, but the Buffs are still smarting from last year's 62-60 CSU win in Boulder.
The Rams, currently 5-1, also have a game between now and Sunday, a Thursday home contest with Long Beach State. CSU's big win to date is an 84-78 win at Northern Iowa in mid-November, one week before UNI knocked off then-No. 1 North Carolina.
Both men's games this week will be broadcast on AM 760.
CU WOMEN: Linda Lappe's 4-2 Buffs open rivalry week Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game vs. Colorado State at Moby Arena.
The Buffs own a 35-11 all-time edge over the Rams, including last season's 87-81 double-overtime victory in Boulder in the Omni Classic finals. The series has been much closer in Fort Collins, however, with the Buffs holding a narrow 12-9 edge.
The Buffs are coming off an 83-61 loss to Florida in last weekend's Omni Classic finals. The Rams are 5-1, a record that includes a win over BYU, a one-point loss at Penn and a double-overtime win over Navy. Live audio of the game will be available at CUBuffs.com on the audio stream.
Sunday, the Buffs travel to Long Beach State for a 3 p.m. matchup. The 49ers are currently 5-1, including wins over San Diego State and Houston, and a loss to LSU.
