Pac-12 Announces 2016 Football Schedules

December 15, 2015 | Football

BOULDER — The Pac-12 Conference released its schedule for conference football games for the 2016 season late Wednesday, and the University of Colorado will host five league opponents and will also play on two weeknights.

Colorado will open the season on Friday night, Sept. 2, in Denver against Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown at Sports Authority Field.  The Buffaloes will then have their home opener at Folsom Field against Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 10, the first-ever meeting between the two schools, although they are only located a little over 400 miles apart.

CU concludes non-conference play with a trip to the “Big House,” traveling to Ann Arbor to face Michigan on Sept. 17; it of course was the site of one of the great moments in CU history.  On Sept. 24, 1994, Colorado won 27-26 on the final play of the game now known as “The Miracle in Michigan.”

All three non-league games were previously announced.

The Buffaloes then open conference play on the road, traveling to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Oregon Ducks on Sept. 24.  The conference home opener follows on Oct. 1 against Oregon State.  CU then alternates home and road games the remainder of the month of October, traveling to Southern California (Oct. 8), hosting Arizona State (Oct. 15) and then visiting Stanford (Oct. 22).

After a bye on Saturday, Oct. 29, CU will have three of its final four games at home, starting with UCLA on Thursday night, Nov. 3.  Colorado's final road game is set for Nov. 12 at Arizona, with the Buffs then closing out the regular season at home on consecutive Saturdays against Washington State (Nov. 19) and Utah (Nov. 26).

Television game selections and start times for the first three weeks of the season will be known by the end of June, with all remaining games from Sept. 24 through the final week of the regular season to be made 12- or six-days in advance per contractual agreements with the Pac-12's television partners, ESPN, FOX and the Pac-12 Networks.
