Colorado-SMU Notes

December 24, 2015 | Men's Basketball

Colorado sees its 11-game winning streak snapped at the hands of SMU. The win streak will go down as the fifth longest in team history and fourth best in any one season.

SMU narrows Colorado's lead in the series to 4-3. This was the first neutral site game between the two teams.

The Buffaloes finish the nonconference schedule at 11-2 for the second time in three years. In 2013-14 the Buffaloes had a 10-game win streak in the middle of that 11-2 run and would eventually advance to the team's third straight NCAA Tournament.

Colorado had entered the game shooting a Pac-12 best 74.1 percent from the foul line. On Tuesday the Buffaloes hit only 8-of-17 for a season low 47.1 percent.

Colorado had its fourth game with at least 10 3-point field goals finishing with 12. The Buffaloes had only three games with 10 or more 3-pointers in 2014-15. In those four games the Buffaloes are shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point range (45-of-99).

Colorado shot 44 percent from 3-point range (12-of-27) but just 35 percent from inside the arc (11-of-31). SMU missed all five 3-point attempts it took, but made 53 percent of its 2-point attempts (29-of-55). SMU had a 44-18 advantage on points in the paint, including a 24-6 edge in the first half.

Colorado drops its 10th straight against a ranked opponent.

Josh Scott (12 points, 12 rebounds) recorded his sixth double-double of the year and 29th of his career tying Alex Stivrins (1983-85) for ninth on CU's all-time list. It was also Scott's 79th career game scoring in double-digits and 33rd game with 10 or more rebounds. He started his 102nd career game tying Stevie Wise (1987-91) for eighth all-time in school history.

Josh Fortune (15 points, 4-of-7 3FG) became the third different player to lead the Buffaloes in scoring this year as Josh Scott and George King had split the scoring lead the first 12 games. Fortune has hit 11 of his last 21 from 3-point range (.524).

Fortune and Scott were Colorado's representatives on the Las Vegas Classic All-Tournament team.

Dominique Collier (12 points, 3-of-6 3FG) scored in double-digits for the third straight game (11.3 ppg). Tied his career high for 3-pointers made and attempted, matching the three he made in the season opener against Iowa State. Collier improved his season 3-point shooting to 48.7 percent for the year (19-of-39).
