Colorado-Washington Quotes

February 15, 2015 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General

"Well we pretty much got it handed to us in that game; it pretty much wasn't a game.  I thought we had some decent chances with the last 8 minutes left.  I felt like we were in good position down ten, we were finally scoring the basketball and finally getting a few stops.  But we just couldn't really figure out a way to cut it down below ten.  We just didn't come out ready to go for whatever reason.  And when you're playing a team that has a lot to play for, which Washington does they are trying to get a home site for the NCAA tournament.  They are on the road and just dropped one at Utah the other night.  They came out and punched us in the mouth.  You have to give them a lot of credit with how hard they played and the intensity with which they played."

On Washington Shooting Well From Behind The 3 Point Line

"I felt like, especially in this game, we weren't ready defensively. They were really comfortable, and when teams are comfortable they score a lot; they hit shots.  Those kids can make shots when they aren't closely guarded.  I thought Jasmine Sborov did a good job on Kelsey Plum.  But Jasmine was probably the only one that we had that could really defend Plum.  As a team we weren't defending.  You can't let another team do what they do best.  They can all hit the three, especially when they aren't having hands in up in their faces or having to make tough decisions.  You could see that every time we made them have to make a decision they turned the ball over."

On Getting Jazmine Davis Of Washington In Early Foul Trouble

"It was really important but we didn't take advantage of it.  It's one of those things where she went out of the game and we were down about three or four.  Jazmine Davis sat out the rest of the half, but we were still down 12 points at halftime.  We didn't really take advantage of it, but it was huge.  Anytime you can get any key player in foul trouble you feel like you're in a good position."

On Team's Poor Shooting

"It was a poor shooting night.  I thought we had a lot of great looks, especially in the second half.  We were executing the offense very well at the start of the second half.  We had a lot of layups with second and third chances.  I felt like we were crashing the boards well.  Jen Reese really went hard to the offensive glass.  Jamee Swan was also going hard to the offensive glass.  We just couldn't convert.  I'm not that upset about it, poor shooting nights are going to happen.  It's a matter of whether or not you can get stops on the other end when you do have poor shooting nights.  We aren't giving ourselves any room to do that on offense.  We have to shoot 50 percent for us to be in the game right now.  Because we aren't playing very good defense."

On "The Difficulty Of Playing Catch Up":

"It's very difficult. No one, especially against a good team like that one, wants to play catch up. That's what got us; we can't start off 21-6 and expect to come back easy. They're a tough team and like Coach Lappe said, had we come out ready to play, it would have been a whole different game."

On the Challenge of Guarding Beyond the Arc:

"They're a great shooting team, but we know that. We know their personnel and we know how to play personnel. It's just coming out with a mentality and a focus on what player has what strengths and we didn't have that in the beginning of the game. That's something we have to focus on right out of the gate. "

Jamee Swan, Jr., F

On Mentality Coming Off Bench:

"Coming off the bench, for me, I just know that when one of my teammates comes out I want to make them proud. I know I have to go and replace their energy and give more energy than they just produced, for me to come in. My mentality coming in is go hard, get every rebound, and do what I can to help everybody find open players. Playing with (Jasmine), knowing where she is, knowing where everybody is, it's knowing where to get the ball to and who's got the hot hand. "

Washington Head Coach Mike Neighbors

On Chantel Osahor's Big Night

"She's been basically our 6th starter all year. She gives us another point guard on the court. It gives the team a lot of confidence not having to look over and see Talia is hurt. It's tremendous to have a player like that who can impact the game in so many ways."

On Holding Off CU's Second Half Run

"It felt like we needed to rebound. They were doing a lot on second chance opportunities. We wanted to make them go against our half court set defense and keep them off the boards."
