Colorado-Oregon Post Game Quotes
February 19, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle
General
"We really battled back but we couldn't finish possessions. We have to rebound the ball when we get stops, and we got enough stops. We just couldn't finish possessions by rebounding it and obviously we can't put the ball in the basket. It's unbelievable."
On Shots Not Going Down
"Yeah, it's been three games in a row now. You think about the Stanford game that we won, the Cal game that we lost, and you think about this game that we lost. Cal, our defense wasn't good enough, and then it wasn't good enough tonight in the first half. We hold them to 58 percent in the first half and 24 percent in the second half. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the same team we were playing and pretty much the same guys we were playing. Consistency continues to be an issue with this team. When we put it together for 40 minutes like we did against Stanford we can win. It's hard to win even when you play well defensively because our margin for error is so small. We're having trouble putting the ball in the basket. When you do that, it's tough, it just makes it really hard to win games."
On Making Shots Being Contagious
"I think there is something to that, because for some reason it's not there. We got the ball to the rim, we got stripped quite a few times in the lane, we just weren't strong with the ball. Oregon is giving up 75 points a game and yet we score 60; I just don't understand it. It's frustrating for me as a coach and I know it's frustrating for our players. I thought our ball movement was pretty good. They ran a matchup zone, they don't really know what their assignments are, we got behind it. Passing and catching was an issue with us; I mean, that is a pretty fundamental skill at this level that you think you have to be able to do. To win games on the road in this league you have to play better than that. So, hopefully we are learning from it and playing better because Saturday's night game against Oregon State is a winnable game. I know their home record is good, but our guys have to believe. We'll try to stay positive and build on the things that we're doing well and learn from the things that we're not. If we can take that to heart, we can bounce back and get a win on Saturday."
On F Tory Miller
"It was a tough game for Tory and we knew that going in. Now, Saturday's game might be a little better going in, but they went small and they have a bunch of guys that put their heads down and drive it. Even at the end there, we played Wesley [Gordon] and Josh [Scott] a little bit at the end there, but it wasn't Tory's kind of game. Again, as a coach you look and some guys didn't play as well as they are capable of playing and they played a lot better against Stanford and they didn't play well tonight. It continues to be a little bit of a crapshoot in terms of what I've decided on the bench in terms of who's playing and who's not playing. Quite frankly, I'm not sure we have a true rotation because it's so different from night to night. We were small there with Dustin [Thomas] and XJ [Xavier Johnson], and we made our run and it's like you are afraid to substitute because you got it going and you don't know if the substitute is going to help your efficiency or is it going to hurt it."
On Consistency
"I think our front line is pretty solid, and I'm riding 'Ski [Askia Booker], obviously he's our senior, but I would say Wesley [Gordon] and Josh [Scott] I'm riding those guys, I think I know what we are going to get from those guys. But, some of the others, I just don't know, and they're all capable, but I just don't know. "
