Colorado-Oregon Game Quotes

February 22, 2015 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

General

"I'm very excited and happy for our three seniors. To be able to help them go out with a win was very important to our team and our staff. We talked about, before the game, about everybody giving their best for those three. I felt like you could see that on the floor. You could see our bench coming in and giving us some key minutes. You could see those three playing even better than they normally do. You could see a lot of fire and intensity from our team. I'm just really proud of what those three have been able to bring to our program not just in terms of being on the basketball floor but also who they are as people and the amount of respect that they have gained from the community as well as from the University of Colorado."

On The First Half

"We just came out flat. The intensity on defense wasn't there. I didn't feel like we were quite ready. I'll take the blame for that just with the scouting report. When we changed some things up in the way that we were defending, it definitely benefited us. We just came out a bit flat, a lot of times you do on senior night. I liked how we responded. We kept at it and the bench came in and did some really good things. I just like how we responded after that period of time."

On The Remaining 2 Games And Pac-12 Tournament

"We feel good. We feel like we're playing good basketball. We've been a little bit inconsistent but as you start to get towards the end of the season, you just want to be playing your best. But, anything can happen in March Madness. You see a lot of upsets in the end of February, beginning of March and through March because there's a lot of teams that were playing their best basketball too early. I don't feel like that was the case for us. I feel like we're doing a lot of really good things on defense which I thought was our big Achilles Heel up until the last couple of weeks. Once we can get that figured out, I feel that we can do well on the road. Obviously we want to look at one game at a time and as we prepare for the Pac-12 Tournament as well."

On The Three Seniors

"Each one is different. I feel like their overall experience. They've played so many games in the CU uniform and so many minutes. They were thrown in the fire as freshmen. They didn't have time to learn and get their feet wet like our freshmen do this year which has been really beneficial for them. They had to play based on where we are as a program. That leads to being able to tell them something in a game that maybe we haven't been able to work on time after time in practice and they know exactly what I mean because they've done it before. So, that's a huge piece of it, their game experience, their experience on the floor, their experience playing in the PAc-12. All of those things are huge positives. Then just how they're such great people. They all have great hearts. They bring tons of energy to practice. They're consistent. You know what you're going to get when you see those three step onto the floor or what you're going to see when you get their academic report back. I've been really proud of who they've become as young women just as much as who they've become as basketball players."

Reflecting On Senior Year

"We keep fighting every day. It sucks to lose. Everyone hates to lose, but we just try to take that into practice and just get better. We've done that these past two weeks in practice and it's shown in the game. We work so hard in the games and we play together. These past four years, we've worked hard and we've played together as a team offensively and defensively. That's just playing Colorado basketball."

Play Of Seniors In Their Last Home Game

"I think it was good that all three of us stepped up. We set the tone for our team with an attacking mentality. Sometimes that's scoring and sometimes it's not; tonight it was just being aggressive. We had open shots and we just hit them."

On Feeling Of Last Home Game

"It was great to get a win. I think that was the most important part of it, to leave Coors [Events Center] with a good feeling. I think that we did the most that we could tonight for the fans and everybody else that this will be the last time they see us play."

On Coach Lappe's Final Words To The Seniors

"One thing she left the team with is that we can attack earlier in the game. We don't have to get down by 14, so just coming with that mindset earlier."

Jasmine Sborov, Sr., G

Responding After Oregon Went Up Early

"We just talked in timeouts. We just talked about changing our mindset and attacking. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, so we had to come into this game with an attacking, aggressive, defensive-rebounding mindset. Sometimes it's easy to lose that focus a little bit. I think that happened for a little bit, but we got it back in our timeouts and halftime and we came out ready to go after that."

On Coach Lappe's Final Words To The Seniors

"She just told us how proud she was afterwards, when we all got subbed out and were coming out of the game. It was the last time we got subbed out on our home floor. It was just a special moment between us three and Coach Lappe. She just told us how proud she was of us these past four years."
