Lexy Kresl (women's basketball) and Josh Scott (men's basketball) have been named the University of Colorado Athlete's of the Week for March 2-8.
Kresl was named to the 2015 Pac-12 All-Tournament team averaging 14 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds over the Buffaloes' three games. In the Buffs' first round win over USC she scored 12 points, dished out 7 assists and tallied 5 rebounds.
The next day, the ninth-seeded Buffaloes pulled off the upset of the tournament in the quarterfinals, becoming the lowest seeded team ever to defeat a No. 1 or No. 2 in the history of the championship. Kresl led Colorado with 19 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
She tied a Pac-12 Tournament record, and her own school record, for 3-pointers made without a miss in one game by nailing all five of her attempts. In the semifinals against California she registered 11 points with 4 assists and 4 rebounds.
Scott went on a career setting run last weekend in Washington where the Buffaloes were 1-1. During the Buffs' 64-47 win over Washington, Scott tallied 21 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals. The junior shot 75 percent from both the field and the line.
Two days later, the Buffs took on the Washington State Cougars where Scott scored a career-high 32 points. Despite a 96-91 overtime loss, Scott shot 66.7 percent (14-of-21) and was 4-5 (.800) from the line. Scott's 14 field goals made set a career high.
Also nominated this week were Johnna Fusco (lacrosse) and Esther Lee (women's golf).
Lacrosse team tied a program best against Presbyterian last week, scoring 19 goals on its way to recording its first ever shutout, a 19-0 victory over the Blue Hose. Fusco, a sophomore, led the offensive attack with four goals. She followed up her performance five days later with three more goals against No. 7 Northwestern. Fusco has recorded a hat trick in each of the Buffaloes' four games this season and leads the team with 14 goals.
Lee turned in her second straight top 10 performance of the spring and fourth overall for the 2014-15 season, shooting a 223, 7-over par, for a career best fifth place finish in last week's Bruin Wave Invitational. The California native improved her final round score by eight strokes and moved up 15 spots on the leader board as she anchored the Buffs with the team's best score in the tournament, helping CU finish 10th overall. Lee tied for first in par-5 scoring at 4-under par and she tallied eight birdies in the 56-hole meet.
