March 30, 2015 | General, Track and Field
BOULDER--Â University of Colorado junior Abrianna Torres was named the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week after recording the league leading heptathlon score of 5,321 points last week at Texas Relays.
Her score was just 36 points shy of her personal best (5,357) and currently ranks eighth in the NCAA Division I.
On Wednesday, the first day of the meet, Torres started by clocking in at 14.56 in the 100-meter hurdles, which was the 12th best time in the field. She then tied for 13th in the high jump, clearing 5-3. One of her top events, indoors and outdoors, has been the shot put, and she didn't disappoint with a throw of 44-00.50 for second overall. The throw is the CU heptathlon record, which broke her previous mark of 42-7 from 2013. She finished the day running a PR of 25.69 in the 200 for 12th place.
Torres recorded a jump of 19-4.25 in the long jump to start the meet on Thursday, which was fifth individually. The following event was the javelin and Torres came away with a seventh place finish with a toss of 110-10. The final event was the 800. She crossed the finish in 2:26.49, just a fraction away from her PR (2:25.09), and was 10th individually.
The Buffs have a pair of meets this weekend. Some members of the distance squad will head west to compete at the Stanford Invitational (April 3-4), while the majority of the team will compete at the Tom Benich Invitational (April 4) in Greeley, Colo.
