April 01, 2015 | General, Track and Field, Women's Golf

Esther Lee (women's golf) and Alex Kizirian (track & field) were awarded as University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for March 23-29.

In the Buffaloes' first tournament to begin spring break, the San Diego State Farms Invitational, Lee went unbeaten in her four matches, posting a 2-0-2 record as she helped CU defeat two top 20 teams to finish second in the match play event. The sophomore closed out the week finishing tied for 10th at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at 5-over par to earn her seventh top 10 finish this year. She led the Buffs with the best score on the team as CU took sixth place overall.

Kizirian had a good meet on Saturday at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular with three top six finishes. He was third in the hammer throw (197-8), fifth in the shot put (54-2.75) and sixth in the discus. (157-10).

Also honored were Johnna Fusco (lacrosse), Abrianna Torres (track & field), Tina Bokhua (tennis) and David Oraee (men's golf).

Fusco combined for seven goals in two games last week, recording back-to-back hat tricks. She was leader on offense in both games during the Buffs road trip. In a tough battle against Boston College, Fusco was a perfect 4-of-4 on free position shots, scoring four goals and she also won three draw controls in the 17-9 loss to the nation's second ranked team. She tallied three more goals two days later along with one assist and three draw controls as CU rebounded to defeat UMass-Lowell, 17-7.

Torres recorded an eighth place finish in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays in a very competitive field of NCAA athletes with 5,321 points. Her score ranks eighth in the nation and was just 36 points shy of her personal best. Torres' shot put throw of 44-0.50 ranks first in CU heptathlon history and was second overall at the meet. She also had a top five performance in the long jump, leaping 19-4.25 for fifth place.

Bokhua picked up a pair of wins, one on the singles and doubles court helping the No. 64 ranked Colorado win its first Pac-12 Conference match of the season, and breaking a 19-match skid in league play, defeating Washington State, 4-3. Bokhua teamed up with senior Julyette Steur at No. 1 doubles for the first time in three weeks (both battling injuries) defeating Elizaveta Luzina and Lize Leenknecht, 8-2.  The win helped the Buffaloes secure the doubles point, the first time CU has won the point in Pac-12 play this season..

Oraee led the Buffaloes in Stanford's The Goodwin, with a 65-75-72?212 (2 over par) effort in CU's 21st place finish.  His first round 65 was the second-best opening round in his collegiate career, and he was 3-under par on the par-4 holes for the meet (30 in all), tying for second-best among the 132 competitors.
