Aiello, Keating, Kizirian Share Athlete Of The Week Honors

April 29, 2015 | General, Tennis, Track and Field, Women's Golf

BOULDER--  Alex Aiello (women's tennis), Alexis Keating (women's golf) and Alex Kizirian (track & field) received University of Colorado Athlete of the Week honors for April 20-26.

Aiello put the wraps on her junior year at the Pac-12 Championships becoming the first woman in CU history to advance to the main draw quarterfinal singles round, and then in doubles, advance to the main draw semifinal round. Aiello won back-to-back three set singles matches in the Invitational Bracket Round of 32 and Round of 16, respectively.

The pair of singles matches were Aiello's first Pac-12 wins of the season, giving her 18 on the year, tying two others for the team lead.

Keating shot a program record 5-under par 66 in the final round of the 2015 Pac-12 Championship last week at the Boulder Country Club, leading the Buffaloes to a school best fifth place finish. Overall, she completed the tournament with a 3-under par 210 (72-72-66) and tied for fifth, which is the fourth best individual finish in school history at a conference tournament.

The junior played 46 of the 54 holes at or below par, including seven birdies in the final round, tying for third most all-time in a single round. It was her second top five finish this season as the Buffs posted an 868 (296-289-283) team score; the best postseason performance in school history.

Kizirian broke his second school record this year, this time in the hammer throw, at the Jack Christiansen Invitational. The senior, who set a new standard in the indoor weight throw in January, launched a throw of 212-4 on his first effort of the day to break Zack Hazen's former CU record of 210-11. The mark was almost 10 feet further than Kizirian's former personal best of 202-5 which he recorded on April 10, 2015 at the Colorado Invitational.

The mark is currently 23rd in the nation, ninth in the region and third in the Pac-12. Kizirian also placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 54-5.50.

Also nominated this week were Bekah Daniel (track & field) and Marie Moore (lacrosse).

Daniel recorded her personal best in the triple jump at the Jack Christiansen Invite, leaping 39-1.25. The jump was good for second overall and placed her fourth on CU's all-time performers list.

Moore combined for four goals, 13 draw controls, eight ground balls and forced six turnovers as she helped the Buffs go 2-0 in the final weekend of the regular season. On April 24 against Fresno State, she recorded her fourth hat trick of the season, scoring three goals as the Buffs defeated the Bulldogs 16-7.

The sophomore had one goal against the Oregon Ducks on April 26, extending her scoring streak to 11 straight games in CU's 8-6 win, allowing the Buffs to clinch the fourth seed in the conference tournament.
