Winter, Holland Pick Up CU Athlete Of The Week Honors
April 08, 2015 | General, Track and Field
Ana Holland (track & field) and Connor Winter (track & field) were awarded as University of Colorado Athletes of the Week for March 30-April 5.
A redshirt freshman, Holland didn't wait long to put her name at the top of the Colorado 200-meter list as she broke the school record in that event at the Tom Benich Invitational on April 4. Holland crossed the finish line in 23.54 seconds, beating the the rest of the field by almost a half second.
Holland also did well in the 100, earning a season-best time of 11.84 and another first place finish, in some very strong head winds, which moved her up to sixth on CU's all-time performers list.
Winter, a junior, raced to a second place finish in the third section of the 1,500-meter run at the Stanford Invitational on April 3, clocking in with a personal best 3:43.34. His time ranks second in the nation and is the second fastest time in the Pac-12 this season.Â
Also nominated were Nuria Ormeo Ruiz (women's tennis) and Marie Moore (lacrosse).
Ormeo Ruiz won the deciding singles match at No. 3 in three sets rallying Colorado to a 4-3 nonconference victory at Denver on April 3. With the match knotted at 3-3, it came down to Ormeo Ruiz at the No. 3 slot and the CU sophomore delivered, clinching her second team win of the 2015 campaign, and collecting her fifth career clinching singles match. The win was her 13th of the spring, also a team high.Â
Moore tallied five goals, won five draw controls and had six ground balls in two games last weekend. On April 3, in CU's 13-5 victory over UC Davis, Moore put six of her seven shots on frame and scored two goals en route to the Buffaloes'Â first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win of the season. In a tight contest against No. 13 Stanford on April 5, the CU co-captain earned her first hat trick of the year, tallying three goals to extend her scoring streak to five straight games. She also recorded five draw controls, and a team-high three ground balls. The Buffs fell 16-14 to the Cardinal.
