Juel-Berg Earns Golf's Top Academic Honor
July 23, 2015 | Men's Golf
BOULDER — University of Colorado senior-to-be Philip Juel-Berg has received the top academic honor in golf, as he has been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America's All-America Scholar team.
Sponsored by Cleveland Golf and Srixon, he was one of 206 players in Division I afforded the honor. To be eligible for the team, candidates must be a junior or senior academically, have competed at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in at least 50 percent of his school's rounds, own a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2. All must also be of a high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Juel-Berg has played in every CU tournament in his career dating back to when he was a true freshman in 2012 (110 rounds), owning a 74.21 stroke average for this past season (73.07 in the spring). He has 26 subpar rounds in his career, with 20 others at even par, with 83.3 percent of his rounds counting toward CU's team score. He also has eight top 20 finishes, six of which have been top 10 efforts.
"We are proud and happy for Phil being named an All-America Scholar,” CU head coach Roy Edwards said. “It is a tremendous accomplishment. Phil is a very prepared person in everything that he does and he is extremely diligent with his academics. This is a great honor."
An Economics major, he also garnered second-team Pac-12 All-Academic team honors this past spring.
Juel-Berg is the 11th Buff to earn the prestigious honor, the first since current assistant coach Patrick Grady did in 2009. He will be looking to become the sixth Buff to earn it twice if he can repeat as a senior in 2016. Stephen Carroll was the last to do so, back over the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
