Volleyball: Getting to Know Taylor Joachim
August 23, 2015 | Volleyball
Taylor Joachim is our fifth freshman in our Getting To Know series. Learn about the freshman right side hitter from Baroda, Mich.
Question: What are you looking forward to most this upcoming season as a freshman?
Answer: I'm really excited to play with a great group of girls with the same goals. I also can't wait to see my growth and development both physically and mentally. It's going to be a big difference from anything I've experienced before, so I'm just going to work hard and see what happens.
Q: Looking at the four non-conference tournaments, which opponent are you looking forward to playing most and why?
A: Living in Michigan, I've grown up in the heart of the Big Ten Conference. Playing Penn State and Illinois will be fun because they're familiar teams, and PSU is the reigning national champion. Penn State is also the venue closest to my home this season, so I'm hoping to see some family there.
Q: The Pac-12 is always a tough conference to play in with many perennial powerhouses. Which team(s) are you most excited about playing and why?
A: Stanford and Washington are big ones to beat, and always compete at the highest level of volleyball possible. I also have a few friends playing on other Pac-12 teams, so I'm looking forward to playing against them as well.
Q: Why did you chose to play volleyball at Colorado?
A: I was looking at a lot of different places, but every place had its pros and cons. I went to CU for a visit, and I loved everything about it. There really isn't anything I don't like. I definitely have that "feeling" at CU...everything from the athletics to academics to the location is perfect and fits me as a person. Every staff member here at CU really cares about the individual student-athlete, which is different from what I'd experienced elsewhere. The Pac-12 is the best volleyball conference in the country, so that just makes it even better. And I love the mountains as well!
Q: What do you think is going to be the biggest difference between high school and college volleyball?
A: Everything.
