Colorado-Oregon State Quotes
January 24, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
"You have to give Oregon State credit tonight, they have great depth and they kept at us. Â We had a tough time stopping [Ruth] Hamblin and their other post player [Marie] Gulich, they really pounded it inside on us. Â We had some droughts scoring, but I do like how Haley Smith stepped up in the third quarter and at the start of the fourth quarter."
On Turnovers In The Fourth Quarter
"It's been a bad habit of ours so far. In the last few games we've had way too many turnovers in the fourth quarter and that's when you want zero turnovers. Â Other teams will step it up on defense during the fourth quarter and we have to expect that. Â I felt like we made some good reads we just didn't complete passes."
On Play Through Three Quarters
"We aren't that far away from where we want to be. Â We played tough for the large portion of the game and they did some good things. Â We just aren't getting what we want on the offensive end. Â I thought we were being impatient on offense, especially at the start of the third quarter and a little bit into the fourth."
On Jamee Swan
"I don't think her injury has affected her shot and I feel that she's moving pretty well up and down the court. Â Back injuries tend to affect your ability to be mobile and I don't see anything like that out there. Â She just needs to let the game come to her, she's forcing it because she wants to win badly."
On Building From This Game
"We should be able to build on it. Â We have all the potential to build on this, and we just need to choose to maximize that potential. Â It'll be a special day when it happens because I feel as though we have some special players."
On Playing At Home in the Coming Weeks
"Sometimes when you go on the road you have a chance to build a team since it's just you and you're together so much. Â But at home you don't have to worry about being uncomfortable, so that should help us."

On Making Her Shots To Help the Team
"That was good for us to get in our minds that we can take advantage of what they are giving us; it was reading the defense and being able to move to where they weren't. That was really good as far as our mindset. It was a way of showing them that we weren't backing down."
On the Lack of Scoring in the Fourth Quarter
"We're working on being able to finish games, to be able to take what the defense is giving us and know that they are going to make mistakes, and that we are going to be able to get back in games. We just kind of lost that focus there at the end."
On the Team's Shooting Struggles
"It has to do with the mindset that we approach the offense with. The past few games we've been doing really well defensively. We've been really enjoying playing defense and working together, playing team defense. That is something that we are trying to work toward on offense. This week we have been working on playing team offense, and not letting things get stagnant, not playing one-on-one, just letting the offense work by setting screens, being fundamental, and then open shots will come."
Oregon State Head Coach Scott Rueck
On Colorado, Haley Smith And Jamee Swan
"I think we need to be more consistent offensively. Colorado did a good job; I know they like playing against us. I knew they'd have great energy tonight, and it didn't surprise me that Haley had such a great game. She's such a warrior, such a competitor. Tonight, our difference was defense in the game. We did a great job against Jamee, you know, because Jamee can put up points in a hurry. Eight points on 16 shots is what we were looking for, since we knew she'd be high volume, and we just prayed she missed. We also had to keep her off the free throw line to win."
On Shooting Percentage And Offense
"I thought we settled. We took some perimeter shots where we needed to go inside a little bit more. Ruth had such a great game; I think we could have gotten her the basketball more than we did. It was a bit of a strange offensive game; I didn't feel like we executed like we could have, and credit to Colorado for playing good defense against us. We played a lot of people today and went deep, so I don't know. I thought the shots we took were open, but they weren't in the flow necessarily. There was a strange feel tonight, where we weren't as clean as usual."
On Starting In A Zone
"They executed well against it. Colorado scored 12 points against it to start. Nobody expected us to start in zone, but I thought they adapted quickly and did a great job executing their shots."
