Bobo, Stanton Named Athletes of The Week

October 11, 2016 | Football, Soccer

BOULDER - Morgan Stanton's (soccer) strong effort on the pitch over the weekend earns her female athlete of the week honors while Bryce Bobo (football) "threw" his way into the honors on the men's side.

The women's soccer team is on fire and no team has found a way to extinguish them over the last month of action. CU came out of its Oregon road-trip victorious in both games to push its win streak to nine straight, doing it in what many may consider dominating fashion. Bryce Bobo continues to put his name in the headlines by making spectacular plays to keep the football team in PAC-12 Championship contention.

Morgan Stanton helped Colorado to its ninth consecutive win as they sit atop the PAC-12 standings. Wins against both Oregon and Oregon State give the team its first 5-0 start in school history. What continues to be the bread and butter for Colorado is its defense. Stanton led the way with just eight shots on goal allowed over the last two matches. The women's soccer team has now outscored its opponents by a whopping 22-3 over the span if its nine-game win streak. Morgan Stanton also leads the Buffs in minutes played for the season and led the team with 167 minutes played this weekend as CU outscored Oregon and Oregon State 6-1.

Junior wide receiver Bryce Bobo has made it routine to make jaw-dropping plays for the Buffaloes this season. This past weekend was no different as Bobo had a career-high 10 receptions for a total of 83 yards, seven of them earning the offense a first down. He caught his second touchdown reception on the year but also found himself on the opposite end of one on Saturday afternoon. The left-handed Bryce Bobo completed a 67-yard touchdown pass to running back Phillip Lindsay in the third quarter of a tough 21-17 loss to Southern California. This was his first career pass, now with a rating of 992.8.

Also nominated for this week's honors: Alexa Smith (volleyball)

Alexa Smith led the Buffs with 3.12 kills per set over the weekend. She recorded 11 kills in the four set loss to No. 7 Stanford in addition to 13 digs and two blocks. In another four set battle on Sunday afternoon against California, Smith led the Buffs with 14 kills. She also recorded 14 digs, one block and one ace in the loss.
