Mike MacIntyre Named Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week

MacIntyre recognized for success on the field, as well as the classroom and community.

ATLANTA – Officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl today announced Tuesday that Colorado Head Football Coach Mike MacIntyre has been selected as The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.

The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Award honors the football coach whose program embodies the award's three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also having success on the playing field during the previous week.

The announcement comes on the same day that MacIntyre was named the Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year.

"What an incredible turnaround for Coach MacIntyre and his Buffaloes," said Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. "Clinching the Pac-12 South after Saturday's win capped off one of the more remarkable storylines of this season and we cannot wait to see what lies ahead for Coach MacIntyre and Colorado."

No. 9 Colorado hosted No. 22 Utah with a chance to clinch the Pac-12 South division title. A win would put the Buffaloes in the Pac-12 Championship Game, solidifying their best finish since joining the Pac-12 in 2011. After taking a seven point lead into the fourth quarter, Colorado scored a decisive defensive touchdown to put the game out of reach, winning 27-22. The victory was Colorado's sixth in a row and second consecutive over a ranked opponent. Coach MacIntyre's Buffaloes improved to 10-2 on the season and 8-1 in the conference, earning themselves a showdown with No. 4 Washington this weekend in Santa Clara.

Saturday's win is yet another impressive accomplishment for Coach MacIntyre who has orchestrated one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college football history. In the past three years, the Buffaloes went a combined 2-25 in conference play, finishing last in the Pac-12 South each of those seasons. Coach MacIntyre's fourth season as head coach has seen different results, as Colorado clinched its first winning season since 2005 and its 10 wins are the most since 2001.

The Colorado team has seen success in the classroom as well under Coach MacIntyre's leadership, boasting a notable Academic Progress Rate score of 968 last year. Coach MacIntyre has crafted an approach to coaching college football that incorporates "The Four F's" – Foundation, Family, Future and Football. He believes that if Colorado's student-athletes focus on the Four F's, it will lead to success. He takes after his father, the late George MacIntyre, who was a long-time college football coach and won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award in 1982.

"The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is proud to honor Coach MacIntyre after such an incredible regular season and for earning a berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game," said Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Chairman Percy Vaughn. "Coach MacIntyre is certainly deserving of this accolade and we wish him and his team continued success this season."

The Dodd Trophy presented by the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl – along with the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Award – celebrates the head coach of a FBS team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

The winner of the 2016 Dodd Trophy will be announced in Atlanta during Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Week. A panel consisting of all previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
