Buffs Rise To No. 15 Nationally
December 12, 2016 | Women's Basketball
NEW YORK – Colorado's women's basketball team climbed two more spots in this week's AP top 25, rising to No. 15 on Monday. It is the highest ranking for the Buffs since 2013.
CU earned a convincing 74-56 win over Colorado State at home on Thursday in its only game of the week. The team was led by sophomore guard Kennedy Leonard, who scored a career-high 31 points and had seven assists. The win avenged a one-point loss to the Rams in Fort Collins last year.
CSU was the second opponent that reached the NCAA Tournament last season the Buffs have beaten so far this season. CU also defeated now-No. 19 Kentucky 79-69 in November. UK reached the Sweet Sixteen a year ago.
Colorado has yet to trail in the second half of a game this season and is 9-0 overall. The Buffs will travel to Mississippi Valley State for a game on Saturday and will wrap up non-conference play with Wyoming at home next Wednesday, Dec. 21.
