CU’s MacIntyre named the AP Coach of the Year and the winner of the 2016 Eddie Robinson Award

BOULDER – University of Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre was named Thursday as the Coach of the Year by the Associated Press and the winner of the 2016 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.

MacIntyre received 109 points and 25 first-place votes from the AP college football poll panel, beating out Penn State's James Franklin in second with 98 and 16. Alabama's Nick Saban was third with 57 and 13.

Presented for a third straight year by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the FWAA/Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award honors the top coach in the FBS as selected by the membership of the 76-year-old writers' organization.

"I'm honored and privileged to be the recipient of both the AP Coach of the Year and the Eddie Robinson Award," MacIntyre said. "It is a testament to our players and coaches for all their hard work and dedication. It is an honor to accept these awards on behalf of our team, our coaches and our fans."

MacIntyre and the Buffaloes fashioned one of the best turnarounds in major college football history, improving off of the 4-9 2015 season to a 10-3 record this year while winning the Pac-12 South Division championship and ranking No. 10 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. CU this year became only the ninth Power-5 team since 1972 to jump from four or fewer wins one year up to 10 or more wins the next.

The honors have consistently been coming in for MacIntyre this month.
