Juel-Berg and Soenksen Named Athletes of the Week

BOULDER - This week's Athlete of the Week honors go to Philip Juel-Berg, Sr. (men's golf) and Paige Soenksen (lacrosse). Juel-Berg led Colorado to a fourth-place finish in Stanford's “The Goodwin,” helping CU defeat six ranked teams including a 4-1 mark against its Pac-12 peers. Soenksen, a goalie, had a stellar week in goal, leading the Buffaloes in two key road games. She had a 7.50 goals-against average and made 13 saves as CU went 1-1 at No. 7 Northwestern and Michigan.

Juel-Berg finished ninth individually with a 70-68-71—209 scorecard for the tournament, which was 1-under par on the 6,727-yard, par-70 Stanford University Golf Course layout. The final round 71 ended a run of six straight rounds of par or better, the second longest streak in school history. He played the nine par-5 holes combined the second-best in the field for the tournament at 8-under, with two eagles, five birdies, one par and one bogey, and lowered his seasons stroke average to 70.96.

On Friday Soenksen had seven saves in an 11-6 loss at Northwestern. She led CU to an 11-4 win on Sunday at Michigan with six saves and two ground balls. She now has an 8.07 GAA and .442 save percentage on the season, while posting a 7-2 record as the team's starting goalkeeper.


Also nominated for this week's honors: Alexis Keating (women's golf), Mackenzie Caldwell (women's track and field), and Ryan Forsyth (men's track and field).

Keating went 3-1 in her four matches at the San Diego State March Mayhem Event. She won her first three, before falling in the final match against Cal on the last day. The CU women's golf team finished 10th place overall.

Caldwell took home top honors in the women's 1,500-meter run at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular in Fort Collins last Friday. She won the race in 4:40.66 and bested Wyoming's Lauren Hamilton, who crossed the finish in 4:42.71.

Forsyth won the men's 1,500-meter run on Friday at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular to kick off the outdoor season, finishing in 3:58.73. He defeated the runner-up, Andrew Goodman (unattached), who finished in 3:58.85.
