Buffs Stopped On The Road By Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Colorado suffered a 4-0 setback on Sunday morning at the University of Portland in non-conference action.
The loss came two days after CU upset 41st-ranked Oregon on the road in Pac-12 play.
"Today we ran into a very good Portland Pilots team, playing on their home court," head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "They definitely took it to us. We had a great win on Friday and today we just kind of got beaten by a better team. We put ourselves in certain positions to keep ourselves in there, but they just came out firing a little bit more today. Hats off to them for playing a tough match."
The Buffaloes dropped the doubles point to the Pilots after Portland won 6-1 at No. 2 and 6-3 at No. 3.
Annabelle Andrinopoulos came up short 6-3, 6-1 against Maja Mladenovic at No. 3 singles and Portland took a 3-0 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Radina Dimitrova over CU's Jeannez Daniel at the No. 2 position.
It came down to the No. 1 singles match to decide the battle. CU's Nuria Ormeño Ruiz dropped the first set 6-2, but recovered with a 6-3 win in the second set. However, Lucia Butkovska pulled away with a 6-2 win for Portland in the third to clinch the match. Butkovska won the final three games of the third set.
Two other matches were on the court when the match ended and the Buffs were leading in both.
"I'm proud of the way our girls came out and competed," Kenneally said. "I think everything they had in there, they laid out, but it wasn't quite enough. We'll work to regroup for out last home match next weekend against Utah."
Colorado will host Utah on Saturday at 11 a.m. for its final regular-season match of the year at CU's South Campus Tennis Complex, weather permitting.
