Lucas Siewert Signs NLI To Join Colorado Basketball Team
April 20, 2016 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – Lucas Siewert has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball and continue his education at the University of Colorado head coach Tad Boyle announced on Tuesday.
Standing at 6-feet, 10-inches, and 230 pounds, Siewert will help bolster the Buffaloes front line. He's the second addition to the front court in this signing period as Colorado signed 7-footer Dallas Walton from Arvada, Colo., last week.
Siewert is a native of Brazil and moved to Los Angeles four years ago. He played three full three seasons, and part of a fourth, at Cathedral High School where he averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds and nearly two assists per game as a senior for the Phantoms who reached the CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA quarterfinals.
"Lucas is an extremely skilled big guy," Boyle said. "He's 6-10, and can shoot the ball out to the 3-point line and beyond. He's one of those guys that keeps getting better and better every time you see him. We're excited to have him."
Siewert led the Del Rey League in rebounding and ranked second in scoring while earning All-CIF Division 3AA First Team honors. He's listed as the 130th best player in the nation in the class of 2016 according to Rivals.com.
Siewert has international experience with Brazil, playing for his country at the 2014 U-18 Americas Championships where he averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds over five games. He also played for Brazil at the 2014 Nike International Junior Tournament in Milan. While in the states, he played club basketball with the Compton Magic.
Siewert is the fourth member of Colorado's 2016 signing class. Along with Walton, he joins Deleon Brown, a 6-4 guard from Grand Rapids, Mich., who currently attends Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, and Bryce Peters, a 6-4 guard from La Puente, Calif., signed in November.
