Daniel and Ormeño Ruiz End Season With Wins At Pac-12 Championships

April 22, 2016 | Tennis

OJAI, Calif. - Colorado wrapped up the 2015-16 season on Friday at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif.

The Buffaloes went 2-2 in singles matches after dropping a pair of tough doubles matches in the morning to be eliminated from doubles competition. Jeannez Daniel and Nuria Ormeño Ruiz fell 6-3 to the 22nd-ranked doubles pair in the country, Alexandra Osborne and Emily Panoho from Arizona State in the Championship Draw.

Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Alex Aiello, playing together for the first time this season due to an injury to teammate Brigitte Beck, dropped a 6-3 decision to Alexia Petrovic and Sarah Richter from Utah in the Invitational Draw.

"In doubles, we played a good team in Arizona State for Nez and Nuri," head coach Nicole Kenneallysaid. "There were a few more missed opportunities there and we've just got to clean it up. Overall, it was a good day. We would've liked to have walked away with a win, but obviously you've got to just keep learning and looking for places to adapt and change and get better."

In the afternoon, four Buffaloes competed in consolation singles matches. Daniel and Ormeño Ruiz both ended their seasons on a high note with victories. Daniel defeated Audrey Mayer from California 6-2, 6-4 and Ormeño Ruiz won 6-3, 6-1 over Shayne Austin from Arizona.

"It's always good for a player to finish on a high note for the year," Kenneally said. "That's good for Nuri and Nez, and Belle and Kyra were also competitive. As we look into the summer and next year, we continue to see what we need to work on."
Friday's competition ends the season for the Buffs.

Aiello is the lone senior on the roster. She finished her CU career ranked 36th in career singles wins with 46 and 36th in singles winning percentage at .554 (46-37). She also ranks 40th in combined singles and doubles wins with 72.
