University of Colorado senior outside hitter Alexis Austin (volleyball) and senior Philip Juel-Berg (men's golf) earned CU Athlete of the Week honors for their performance during the week of September 7-13.

Austin earned all-tournament honors at the Rice Adidas Invitational last weekend after recording 45 kills, 14 digs, and five blocks while hitting .320. She earned double-digit kills in all three matches of the tournament, leading the Buffs in two. She had 12 kills in the match against Sam Houston State and hit .241 with five digs and one block. Austin led CU against Louisiana-Lafayette and Rice. In the match against ULL, she tallied 16 kills, four of which came at the end of the match and helped CU take the contest in three sets. She also hit a weekend-best .394 and tallied three digs and one block. Against Rice, Austin hammered 17 kills in four sets. She also picked up six digs and posted three blocks while hitting .314.

For the weekend, she averaged 4.5 kills, 1.4 digs, 0.5 blocks and 4.9 points per set.

Juel-Berg paced the Buffaloes to a runner-up finish at the Air Force Falcon Invitational by claiming medalist honors, his first college win. He tamed the tough Eisenhower Blue Golf Course configuration this week with a 69-67-68—204 scorecard on the 7,443-yard, par-72 track to win by five strokes. He tied the school record for the most strokes under par (minus-12) in a 54-hole tournament, previously done on two occasions. Earlier in the week, he finished second in the Ballyneal Challenge in Holyoke, Colo., with a 70-66—136 effort, helping CU to the team win.

"We are very excited for Philip and his win; he played really well here," CU coach Roy Edwards said. "He played great all summer and it has carried through to the start of our season. It has been incredible to see his development over the last several years. He has been so important for us in many team wins and he has been a great ambassador to CU and to our team. To see him get his first collegiate victory is very special."

Juel-Berg is the 10th Buffalo to win the Air Force meet, joining Jim English (1969), Murl Hendrickson(1970), Blake Stirling (1973), Matt Potter (1984), John Lindberg (1987), Mike Glaesel (1988), John Nyuli (1990), Jonathan Kaye (1992) and Jason Burstyn (2012). Earlier this week, Jeremy Paul won the Ballyneal Challenge (a two-round, one day affair in Holyoke).

In five rounds last week, he averaged 68.0 strokes per round and has logged four straight in the 60s, one shy of the school record.  At Air Force, he led the entire field with 15 birdies, was in the top five in pars (36) and had the fewest bogey holes or worse (just three) in also leading in both Par-4 and Par-5 scoring.

Also nominated for this week's honor: Kate Scheele (soccer) and the offensive line (football).

CU's offensive line paved the way for 59 rushing attempts for 390 yards (6.6 avg.) and 5 touchdowns in CU's 48-14 win over Massachusetts. The last time CU rushed for over 300 yards in a game was on Sept. 22, 2007 against Miami-Ohio in Boulder (63-359); it was the most since the last time the Buffs ran for 400 yards (48-427) at Kansas on Oct. 12, 2002. In addition, the offensive line did not allow a quarterback sack.

Senior goalie Scheele earned her second shutout of the season when the Buffaloes defeated the University of Denver 1-0 on Friday night. It was also her 13th of her career, which is now fourth-most all-time in the CU record book. She only surrendered one goal over the weekend, in overtime to Northwestern after holding the Wildcats scoreless until the 97th minute. Scheele played all 187 minutes over the two matches.
