Buffs Football Camps Start June 6, Space Still Available

May 23, 2016 | Football, Neill Woelk

BOULDER — Ready to run with the Buffaloes?

Hundreds of young football players from throughout the region, ranging from the tiny tykes to Division I hopefuls, will descend on the University of Colorado's football facilities for camps throughout the month of June. Camps will range from the annual youth camp (June 6-8) for first through 8th graders to high school skills camps (June 11 and 18) to the Buffalo Shootout, the annual team 7-on-7 tournament and clinic.

Space is still available in each of the individual camps.

CU coach Mike MacIntyre and his staff, including coordinators Jim Leavitt, Brian Lindgren and Darrin Chiaverini, will be on hand to provide instruction for all of the camps; with CU players serving as additional instructors/coaches for the youth camps.

Young players can attend any or all three days of the youth camp.

“It's something we look forward to every year,” MacIntyre said. “Our coaches enjoy it because it's a chance to see young players and work with them, and it always gives us the opportunity to see talented young men who could someday be Buffs.

“The players also have a lot of fun working with the younger campers. They get to see what it's like to be a coach and teach the game. We always have a great turnout for the camps, and it gives everyone who attends a first-hand look at our program, our facilities and what the Buffs have here at the University of Colorado.”

About 300 youngsters are expected to be on hand for the youth camp (June 6-8, 8:30 a.m. to noon each day). The youth camp offers skill instruction, competition and other activities, depending upon the age groups.

“The kids enjoy it,” MacIntyre said. “They learn from our players and have fun while doing it.”

The first high school skills camp (June 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.) offers more detailed instruction from CU's coaches, with about 200 campers expected. Much of the time is dedicated to on-field instruction in actual game situations and teaching/drilling of fundamentals and techniques of each position.

The second skills camp session, June 18, is the increasingly popular “Under the Lights” camp, when attendees have the opportunity to participate in camp in an evening session under the Folsom Field lights. The session runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with CU coaches again providing instruction in a “prime-time” atmosphere.

The final camp session of the summer is the Buffalo Shootout on June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The session features a 7-on-7 tournament and clinic, and will include 24 school programs from around the Front Range

Space is still available in each of the individual skills camp, and online registration and more information can be found at CUBuffs.com/footballcamp.
