Eleanor Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and play for the University of Colorado women's basketball team beginning with the 2016-17 season, head coach JR Payne announced on Wednesday.

BOULDER –Eleanor Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her education and play for the University of Colorado women's basketball team beginning with the 2016-17 season, head coach JR Payne announced on Wednesday.

Jones is a 6-foot, 2-inch forward from Salisbury, England. She attends Charnwood College and plays for the United Kingdom's Leicester Riders.

"Eleanor is someone that people are going to love to watch," said Payne. "She is an exciting player and extremely athletic. She is very skilled and just really gifted with a rare combination of athleticism, size and skill. Eleanor can stretch the defense with her ability to shoot, and she can defend and rebound with her athleticism. She's someone who will have a huge impact in all four years of her career here."

Jones has played in 26 games over the last two seasons with the Riders where she has become one of the team's top rebounders. During her 2015-16 campaign, she averaged 5.4 points and was third on the team averaging 5.2 rebounds per game. In 2014-15, Jones played in 16 games, recording 4.3 points and 5.0 rebounds a game and also shot an impressive 55.8 percent from the field.

In addition to playing for Leicester, Jones has competed on various under-16 and under-18 teams over the past three years. She was a member of Scotland's U16 European Championship Division C team in 2013, averaging nearly a double-double with 9.8 points and 13.5 rebounds, including 2.0 blocks per game as she earned All-Tournament team honors. Most recently, Jones has played on the U18 European Championship Division B squad for England. She averaged 5.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in 2014 and then recorded 6.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest in 2015.

Jones will become Colorado's 16th international player and first England native in program history. She is the third internationally-born player to play for CU in the last five years, joining Alina Hartmann from Bamberg, Germany (2014) and Julie Seabrook of North Vancouver, Canada (2008-12).

The newest Buff is the third addition to the 2016 class. She joins Bria Rice, a 5-8 guard from Federal Way, Wash. and Quinessa Caylao-Do, a 5-9 shooting guard from Tacoma, Wash., who signed this past fall.
