Buffs Participate In WBCA Day Of Service

September 29, 2016 | Women's Basketball

BOULDER – Colorado's women's basketball team participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Day of Service on Wednesday. The Buffaloes helped stock food shelves and bag food for families at the Community Food Bank in Louisville.

Wednesday was the inaugural WBCA Day of Service, where the coaches' association asked all programs to engage in an act of service with their communities. CU's women's basketball team has been active in the community for years and junior Brecca Thomas has helped out at the Community Food Bank for the past three years.

"[Community service projects are] always fun to do," Thomas said. "This is my third year doing this and it's always fun to come out as a team and do something [where] we're bonding, while also giving back to the community. We get to meet new people and they're always so welcoming and warm when we come here."

One group of CU women's basketball players helped pack eggs to assist the food bank, while two other groups teamed up to gather ears of corn into sacks for families.

"It's always nice to do stuff outside of basketball to give back to the community and have a good time doing it. That's always a joy to experience."

The Buffs open practice on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Coors Events Center and will play their first game of the season on Friday, Nov. 11, at Northern Colorado.
