DENVER – Colorado's Senior Associate AD Ceal Barry was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Sportswomen of Colorado due to her legendary career as a women's basketball coach and administrator at the university.

"It's an honor to be recognized by Sportswomen of Colorado as the recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award," said Barry. "It is humbling to be singled out, because athletics is a team effort. I've been very fortunate to work on issues that I am passionate about, that is giving coaches of women's sports and women athletes an opportunity to compete and excel at a high level."

Founded in 1974 by the YWCA of Metropolitan Denver, in cooperation with Gart Brothers Sporting Goods Co., Sportswomen of Colorado is recognized as the first community-based organization in the nation to solely honor female athletes, celebrate their achievements and recognize those whose efforts have advanced girls' and women's individual and team sports endeavors.

The organization received a record number of nominations for their 2016 Award Winners and Hall of Fame Inductees and will hand out 54 total awards, plus the Sportswoman of the Year. Other notable CU athletes in the Hall of Fame include Rio Olympic bronze medalists, Emma Coburn and Jenny Simpson.

Track and Field and Cross Country Head Coach Mark Wetmore was named Coach of the Year.

"Mark Wetmore is the best distance coach in the world," said Barry of Wetmore. "He approaches his job with tremendous focus, integrity, and sense of responsibility in leading young athletes. The job he's done in the Pac-12 Conference winning consecutive conference championships for both men and women has been remarkable. I'm thrilled that Mark received this recognition."

CU athletes recognized by Sportswomen of Colorado included Petra Hyncicová (Nordic) and Tonje Trulsrud (Alpine) who both were award winners in skiing.

Sportswomen of Colorado will honor Colorado's top female athletes and contributors to women's athletics at its 43rd Annual Awards Celebration on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Infinity Park Events Center. Five-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time Sportswoman of the Year Missy Franklin will attend the Awards Celebration as Sportswomen of Colorado's Special Guest.
