Weather:
-
The weather tonight in Salt Lake City is calling for 50 degrees by kickoff with humidity at 51% and a zero percent chance of rain.
- In the six meetings since both schools joined the Pac-12 in 2011, the combined outcomes have been decided by a total of 32 points. Each of the last six contests have been one-score games, with Utah winning four of the six.
- TB Phillip Lindsay needs 306 rushing yards to become CU's all-time leading rusher. Eric Bieniemy (1987-90) has held that top spot for 27 years, rushing
for 3,940 yards in his career. There have been three 300-yard rushing games in school history, last done by Chris Brown on Oct. 12, 2002 at Kansas (309 yards). Lindsay's career-high is the 281 yards he gained on 41 carries versus Arizona this year on Oct. 7. - WR Juwann Winfree needs three more receptions tonight to become the sixth Colorado player with 20 or more receptions on the season. It would mark the seventh time in the last 14 seasons (going back to 2004) that it has occurred at CU.
- Colorado in its last three games has averaged 497.7 yards per game and 32.6 points. CU's hot unit will be going up Utah's defense that ranks fourth in the
Pac-12 by giving up just 24.9 points per game (off of 411.0 yards on average).
- Colorado won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. After a touchback from Davis Price, a Utah unsportsmanlike conduct penalty pushed the Utes back to their 13-yard line to start the game. Utah started to move the ball and get out of their own territory but Colorado's defense got into their defensive rhythm and stopped the Utes on third down on the Colorado 46-yard line after a Drew Lewis sack.
- The Buffs started their first drive of the game with a quick three-and-out. After starting on their 22-yard line with three passes, Steven Montez was unable to connect with Bryce Bobo on third down and the Buffs were forced to punt.
- The Utes took advantage of Colorado's punt, on the first play from scrimmage, Zack Moss rushed for a 17-yard gain. Utah continued to advance the ball after Troy Williams hit Moss for a 25-yard dump off pass which put Utah in Colorado territory at the Buffs 25-yard line. Three plays later Moss busted through Colorado's defense for a 15-yard touchdown run.
- Colorado started its second drive of the game at the 25-yard line. On third down, Phillip Lindsay rushed for 11 yards. Two plays later Steven Montez hit Jay MacIntyre on the sideline but an offensive pass interference penalty on Bryce Bobo negated the gain. On second-and-22 Steven Montez found a big hole and ran for 23 yards for a first down. The Buffs drive stalled after three incomplete passes and a missed 51-yard field goal from James Stefanou.
- Two Colorado penalties on defense lead to the Utes second touchdown of the game. A horse-collar tackle by Drew Lewis added 15 more yards on top of a 20-yard gain by Zack Moss and a pass inference penalty on Isaiah Oliver gave Utah the ball on the 2-yard line and Moss punched it in to give Utah a 14 point lead.
- After the touchdown, K.D. Nixon returned the kickoff for 34 yards to give the Buffs their best field position. On the first play from scrimmage Steven Montez hit Jay MacIntyre for a 20-yard completion into Utah territory. Two incomplete passes from Montez would end the first quarter.
- The second quarter started off with an Alex Kinney punt to the Utah 12-yard line. The Utes made quick work moving the ball after a Troy Williams 40-yard reception to Rae Singleton to the Colorado 24-yard line. Two Zack Moss rushes later led to a Williams 8-yard touchdown run. Utah leads Colorado 21-0 10:29 left in the first half.
- Colorado followed the touchdown with a quick three-and-out. A 53-yard punt from Alex Kinney gave Utah the ball on its 15-yard line. The Utes started to the move the ball but once they got into Colorado territory Nate Landman tipped a ball at the line of scrimmage and on the next play Landman forced a fumble which was recovered by Rick Gamboa on the Colorado 48-yard line but the play was called back after a review showed the Utah player was down when he recovered the fumble. The Utes got the ball back but had to punt on fourth down.
- Colorado's offense stalled after the Utah punt giving the Utes plenty of time to drive down the field before the first half ended. Troy Williams found Darren Carrington three times on the drive for 34-yards which lead to Utah to their fourth touchdown of the game. Williams rushed 9 yards for his second touchdown of the night.
- Colorado started the second half on its 25-yard line. After three rushes the Buffs were forced to punt after a three-and-out. Alex Kinney punted for 60 yards where K.D. Nixon made a great special teams play to give Utah their second half starting field position on its 7-yard line.
- The Buff's defense was able to hold Utah on third down and forced a Ute punt which was fair caught by Ronnie Blackmon on the Colorado 27-yard line where the Buffs offense would take over. After an incompletion on first down, Steven Montez found Jay MacIntyre for a 21-yard reception. On the ensuing play Montez was looking for MacIntyre again, the pass fell incomplete but a holding penalty on Utah moved the ball to the Utes 42-yard line. Colorado continued to move the ball and after a 19-yard reception to Chris Bounds, the Buffs were in the red zone for the first time tonight. Phillip Lindsay found the end zone from 6-yards out to but the Buffs on the board.
- Utah started the ensuing drive on its 25-yard line. After a tackle for loss on the first play from scrimmage, the Utes broke out a 23-yard run. Utah was able to move the ball to the Colorado 19-yard line but on a third down incompletion, the Utes kicked a 37-yard field goal to put them up by 24 points over the Buffs.
- On the ensuing drive, Colorado started with a 14-yard pass to Juwann Winfree followed by a 28-yard completion to Bryce Bobo to move the ball to the Utah 37-yard line. A false start penalty and two incomplete passes led to a long fourth down. Colorado went for it on fourth-and-12, Steven Montez hit Winfree for a 19-yard completion to keep the drive alive. After a Utah sack, Montez hit Winfree again for a 13-yard catch and run to move the Buffs into the red zone to end the third quarter.
- The Buffs were able to convert on third-and-goal to start the fourth quarter. Steven Montez found the end zone from 3-yards, a failed two point conversion put the Buffs down 18 with 14:19 left to play in the game.
- Colorado's defense forced a Utah three-and-out, their first of the game. A bad punt gave Colorado good field position at the Utah 48-yard line. The Buffs started their drive with three rushes for a first down. Steven Montez then hit Bryce Bobo for an 8-yard grab followed by a 12-yard rush from K.D. Nixon. On first down, Steven Montez was stripped of the football turning it over to Utah at the Utes 33-yard line.
- After the turnover, Utah ran the ball three times with Zack Moss for 22-yards. Troy Williams then hit Darren Carrington for a 22-yard pick up to the Colorado 29-yard line. A tackle for loss and a sack by Derek McCartney forced a 48-yard field goal from Utah.
- The Buffs started on their 19-yard line, a 9-yard pass to Laviska Shenault Jr. and a 7-yard pass to Jay MacIntyre gave Colorado a first down but after two incomplete passes and a three yard rush on third-and-10 led to a fourth attempt for Colorado. Steven Montez was sacked on fourth down turning the ball over on downs back to the Utes.
- Utah took advantage of the turnover on downs and marched right now down the field in five plays to the 3-yard line where they would take a knee and run the clock out to beat Colorado 34-13.
