Fusco, White Named CU Athletes of the Week

BOULDER – Johnna Fusco (women's lacrosse) and Derrick White (men's basketball) were named the CU Athletes of the Week for their performances from the week of February 26-March 5.
Fusco led the Buffs, who are ranked 13th in the coaches' poll and ninth in the media poll, to a 2-0 week with 12 points, nine goals and three assists. The senior attacker from Mariette, Ga., single-handily scored more goals than No. 14 Denver when the Buffs faced the Pioneers in Boulder. She tied a career-high with five goals and added two assists as CU stampeded past DU 14-3. Fusco had seven shots in the game, all of which were on goal, went 1-1 on free position attempts and earned three draw controls.
Fusco did not let up in the second game, a 20-6 victory, against Marquette, scoring four goals. She added one assist for five points. Fusco went 3-4 on free position attempts and again earned three draw controls. She also recorded one ground ball.
For the weekend, Fusco averaged 4.50 goals, 1.50 assists, 6.00 points and 3.00 draw controls, while converting on 4-5 free position attempts.
CU is 6-0 for the first time in school history and is 3-0 against ranked opponents this season.
White led the men's basketball team to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Stanford and California to close out the regular season. Against Stanford, White had nine points, going 4-7 on field goals, and had 8 assists as CU defeated Stanford 91-72. Against California on Senior Day, White had 17 points and 8 rebounds. With less than 20 seconds remaining in the game, the senior guard hit the game sealing three-pointer as the shot clock expired to lead the Buffs to a 54-46 victory over the Golden Bears.
Following the end of the regular season, White was named to the 2017 All-Pac-12 Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team. He is Colorado's sixth All-Pac-12 First Team selection. White led the team at 17.0 points, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. White's 45 blocks during the regular season were the most by a guard in team history.
Finishing the regular season at 18-13 overall, Colorado now heads to the 2017 Pac-12 Tournament, March 8-11, in Las Vegas.
