Weather:
- Tonight's weather calls for mostly cloudy skies, with a high of 85 degrees. Sunset around 7:30, with a zero percent chance of rain.
- This is the 89th meeting between the Buffs and the Rams, with Colorado winning seven of the last ten meetings, including two in a row in 2015 and 2016.
- The 78 seasons that Colorado has won their opener, they went on to post winning records 61 times.
- Colorado leads the series 21-8 since the rivalry resumed in 1983. The Buffs have outscored the Rams by 848-594 in those games. CU has held a lead in 26 games.
- The 2017 season will be the 50th Anniversary of Ralphie taking the field.
First Quarter
- The Buffs forced a quick three-and-out from the Rams, Colorado State's punt pinned the Buffs deep in their own territory. After a four yard completion, a one yard loss on a Phillip Lindsay run and a Colorado State sack, Colorado also was forced to punt back to the Rams on their first drive of the night.
- Colorado State started their second drive on their own 47-yard line and began to move the ball on the Buffs after a 13-yard completion from Nick Stevens to Michael Gallup. The Rams continued to drive but on a third down pass they were called for offensive pass interference and were unable to convert on third-and-nineteen. The Rams punt was downed on the Colorado six-yard line.
- Colorado first pass on their second drive was a 10-yard completion from Steven Montez to Shay Fields, which was followed by a Colorado State, roughing the passer penalty. The Buffs continued to drive with a 12-yard pass to Devin Ross followed by a Phillip Lindsay 45-yard touchdown run. Chris Grahram's PAT put the Buffs up 7-0 over the Rams with 7:11 to go in the first quarter.
- Colorado State was able to gain a first down but the Buffs were able to force another Ram punt. Colorado took over on the Colorado State 33-yard line after a interference penalty was called when Isaiah Oliver was fielding the punt.
- Colorado quickly drove down the field with two Bryce Bobo catches, two Phillip Lindsay runs and two Michael Adkins II runs. The drive was capped off by a 39-yard field goal by James Stefanou with 1:38 left in the first qaurter.
- The Buffs forced the Rams to punt again after a third down quarterback hurry by true freshman Jacob Callier. After a shanked punt, Colorado took over on CSU's 45-yard line to end the first quarter with the Buffs up 10-0.
- Phillip Lindsay started the Buffs out in the second quarter when he busted out an 18-yard run to the Colorado State 31-yard line. After a holding call on the Buffs, Steven Montez scrambled to find Shay Fields for a 31-yard touchdown catch, followed by a James Stefanou extra point to put the Buffs up 17-0 over the Rams with 13:36 remaining.
- Colorado State came right back and drove down the field after a 19-yard pass completion to Michael Gallup and a Rashaad Boddie rush for 24-yards. The Buffs defense was able to come through and hold the Rams to a 31-yard field goal. With 9:56 left in the second quarter the Buffs lead the Rams, 17-3.
- After starting their drive from their 25-yard line, Steven Montez was intercepted on the 47-yard after Kevin Nutt Jr. took the ball out of Devin Ross' hands. The Buffs were able to stop the Rams after the turnover on fourth-and-one and Colorado took over on their 39-yard line.
- Colorado State began their final drive of the half on their own 10-yard line, they caught the Buffs defense on their heels and were able to move the ball. Colorado was able to hunker down and stop the Rams heading into halftime. The Buffs ended the half with two sacks on Nick Stevens, one by Jacob Callier and a fourth down sack by Rick Gamboa.
- Colorado started the second half on their 25-yard line, the Buffs offense wasn't able to move the ball and were forced to punt. After Lee Walker III interfered with the Rams ability to catch the punt, Colorado State started their drive on their 33-yard line.
- The Rams began to show improvement on offense in their first drive of the second half. But Colorado State had two offensive penalties during their drive that took away two touchdowns. Immediately after the illegal hands to the face penalty, Nick Stevens was picked off by Evan Worthington on the Colorado 18-yard line.
- After the Buffs interception, Colorado was called for two false starts and began their drive on the 8-yard line. An acrobatic catch on the sideline by Jay MacIntyre kept the Buffs drive alive on third-and-12. Shortly after, the Buffs were forced to put, where Beau Bisharat downed the ball on the CSU 9-yard line.
- A 31-yard rush on first down started the Rams drive, Colorado State was then called for their third offensive pass interference call that pushed the ball back to the 37-yard line of CSU. Trey Udoffia had two big pass breakups during the drive to force the Rams to punt.
- At the end of the third quarter Colorado leads Colorado State 17-3.
- The Buffs started the fourth quarter with a third down conversion but on first down, Steven Montez threw his second interception of the game to Colorado State's Kevin Nutt Jr. in the end zone. The Rams would take over on the Buffs 25-yard line.
- Colorado's defense held strong and took over on downs after Colorado State went for it on fourth-and-five but the pass fell incomplete. The Buffs would take over on the Ram 40-yard line.
- Colorado drove the ball down to the 21-yard line but were unable to find the end zone. James Stefanou attempted a 38-yard field goal attempt but it was pushed wide to keep the score 17-3 Buffs, with 6:03 left in the fourth quarter.
- On third-and-one, Nick Stevens completed a pass to Warren Jackson but was stripped of the football by Trey Udoffia. Afolabi Laguda picked up the ball and returned it for 11-yards to the Colorado 39-yard line.
- On Colorado State's final drive of the game, Nick Stevens was looking for the end zone but was picked off by Trey Udoffia with :54 seconds left. Colorado lined up in victory formation to end the Rocky Mountain showdown with a final score of 17-3, Buffs.
