Buffs Hang In At No. 25 In USA Today Poll But Slip From AP Rankings

October 14, 2018 | Football, Neill Woelk

BOULDER — To no one's surprise, the Colorado Buffaloes dropped significantly in the national polls after their 31-20 loss to USC on Saturday in the LA Coliseum.

The Buffs headed into the weekend ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll and No. 18 in the Amway/USA Today Coaches poll.

But after suffering their first loss of the season to fall to 5-1 (2-1 Pac-12), the Buffs dropped to No. 25 in the coaches poll and into the "others receiving votes" group in the AP rankings. Colorado received a total of 49 points in the AP poll, the 30th most in the rankings.

Overall, the Pac-12 took a hit in the rankings, as Washington (5-2) dropped from No. 7 to No. 15 in the AP poll after losing in overtime to 5-1 Oregon. The Ducks, however, moved up five spots in the AP poll to No. 12. Washington State (5-1) is the only other Pac-12 team in the AP top 25, slipping in at the 25th spot.

In the coaches poll, Oregon moved up to No. 11, Washington dropped to 14th and Washington State, Stanford (4-2) and Colorado were Nos. 23, 24 and 25, respectively. USC, meanwhile, received votes in both polls.

Individually, Colorado's Laviska Shenault Jr. still leads the nation in receiving yards per game (130.0) and receptions per game (10.0). Shenault had nine catches for 72 yards and a 49-yard touchdown run against USC before leaving with an unspecified foot injury, but did not have a touchdown reception for the first time this year. He is still tied for sixth in the nation in total touchdowns with 11.

The Buffs' are back on the road again this week, with a 1:30 p.m. (MT) game at Washington set for Saturday. The game will be televised by the Fox network.
