Colorado Head Coach Mike MacIntyre

Opening Statement
"We've had a good week of practice over the last two days. We're excited about the game on Saturday. An afternoon game, which is fun in the Pac-12 there's no doubt about it."

On WR Tony Brown
"Tony Brown has played excellent. His run after catch has been excellent. The big play going back when [WR] Juwann [Winfree] got hurt at Nebraska, that slant where he broke the safety down was a huge third down play on the last drive. I think that gave him a ton of confidence. He's been playing really well. We knew he was a really good player and liked a lot of things about Tony. All the other receivers are playing and [QB] Steven [Montez] is doing a good job getting them the ball at different times. All those guys will step up and continue playing well."

On Arizona State Rushing Attack
"[ASU Running Back Eno] Benjamin is an excellent runner. They ran the ball for what feels like 1,000 yards watching the film against Oregon State. On a lot of the runs he just made people miss. They did an excellent job blocking, but when he got to the second level, he would spin and make them miss. He has great speed. We're going to have to tackle him well. Like I say all the time, we have to fit up the run correctly because if you get out of the wrong gap or get pushed in the wrong gap, he has the vision (to hurt you). He's able to see over there and cut all the way back over here. When he gets to the secondary he has tremendous speed. Our ability to tackle and fit up the run in the correct spots is going be a huge key in the game."

On Play In UCLA Game Where WR Jay MacIntyre Ripped Would-Be Interception Away From Defender
"That was an excellent play by him. Steven [Montez] threw it down the middle and their DB made a great play. We tell our receivers, when you're in position and realize it could be an interception, to turn into a DB. He did that. I thought it was a phenomenal play to come down with that. We had a penalty that negated it, but it could have been a big turning point at the end of the half there. That's a play of never giving up, never quitting, never say die attitude. It was a heck of a play that Chev (Co-Offensive Coordinator Darrin Chiaverini) pointed out to all the receivers. That's how you try to make a play if you have an opportunity."

On Improved Pass-Rush
"It is more consistent. We have more d-linemen that we can rotate in so they come in and they're a little bit fresher. That makes a difference. We have more speed on the edge, so that makes a big difference. Then I think that [Defensive Line] Coach [Kwahn] Drake and [Co-Offensive Coordinator DJ] Eliot have done a phenomenal job with those guys. DJ and our defensive staff has done a good job of getting some people isolated in some different sets that we're blitzing out of. But we're also getting there and getting a lot of pressure with four (players rushing the passer), we've even gotten there with three. I think our defensive line is better, we're deeper, we're able to rotate more and we have more speed off the edge with Davion [Taylor] and Drew [Lewis] and of course Carson Wells and Jacob Callier are playing have good speed.

On Arizona State QB Manny Wilkins
"Manny is an excellent quarterback. He is truly what you call a duel threat quarterback. The thing that Manny can do is he can make the deep throw, he can make the intermediate throw, he can beat you with his legs, he can get on the edge of the pocket which helps you on pass rush lanes, and he has played a lot of football. He sees a lot of things. He is extremely calm out there. He has a good quarterback demeanor. He is an excellent player, an excellent Pac-12 quarterback, and a guy we are going to have to corral. I don't think you are going to be able to stuff him out because he is going to be able to make plays and understand what you're doing. We have to corral him and be able to keep him from just beating us."

On Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry
"N'Keal Harry is an excellent player. They move him around a lot so we have to know where he is and understand what they are doing when he is in those positions. The thing that N'Keal does really well is his run after catch. They are going to get him the ball in wildcat, get him the ball in screens, and throw it up in the end zone for a jump ball because he is big. Our ability to get to him when he catches the screens and the quick throws is to get to him quick and get him down is important. If you let him get running, he is hard to bring down. He is big and powerful. Our objective is to know where he is and get to him quick. He is going to catch some balls because they are going to get it to him, but we can't allow him to run after catch and have some big players in that type of situation."

On Arizona State Defense
"They have a very disruptive defense. It is coming from [San Diego State Head Coach] Rocky Long's protégé [ASU Defensive Coordinator Danny Gonzales] that runs the defense there. They are a 3-3 scheme with a lot of attacking and schemes that have them moving around everywhere. First of all, [QB] Steven [Montez] has to know what is going on and where the free guy is coming from. I believe he understands that. He needs to get the ball out of his hands quick. The second thing is the offensive line. They have to understand the different scheme. I believe that they definitely do. The other thing is we have to be able to run the ball on them and they know that. If they get you in a totally one-dimensional passing game, that is when they feast on you. They have all of the different things they do. We have to be able to run the football and make some plays there to be able to allow us to throw it."

On Arizona State Head Coach Herm Edwards
"Coach Edwards has done a great job with the team. Todd Graham left him a lot of talent there. I think Coach Edwards has done a good job with them. They had that tough game at Washington that could have gone either way. Same thing with San Diego State. They could easily be undefeated and I think they are a very good football team. Their special teams are good. I believe the same special teams coordinator that was there with Todd (Graham) stayed. They show a lot of promise in that area. They have an unbelievable kicker and an unbelievable punter. They are really good. I thought the two they had two years ago when they came here were unbelievable. These two are just as good. It's pretty amazing how good they are."

On Offensive Tempo
"We want to play with a high tempo. We have quite a few linemen that we can rotate in and stay healthy. That keeps you going fast. We feel we have a couple of running backs who can do it and have a multitude of receivers. We are able to play fast and stay fresh. We would like to definitely do that. That dictates how the defense gets going, but we can get going, play fast and our kids are good at it. The great thing about it is our quarterback. He understands it all. He's a quick-twitch thinker. He can see and he can think. He is very, very bright. He can get the ball out of his hands quickly. He is a running threat also. We don't want to run him a ton, but if they are going to give it to us we will let him. He has gotten better at sliding compared to the last few years. It enables us to play fast. [Co-Offensive Coordinator, Darrin Chiaverini] Chev has done a great job. Both him, and [Co-Offensive Coordinator] coach (Klayton) Adams in getting things called quickly and getting things going."

On Cracking Top 25 In Recent Polls
"I haven't said anything to the team about it and not one of the players has said anything to me about it. That (being top-25) is a great thing for everybody, but for us, we know if we take care of our next game, and our next game then we will keep moving up, and we'll be able to do the things we want to. If we lose a couple of games, we'll be out of all of that. That doesn't affect us at all. It is good for recruiting though. I will say that because those kids look at that. As far as this team and what we're doing, not one of us or one of the coaches has said one word about it. I'm glad none of the players has said anything about it. We have bigger aspirations than just being ranked. Hopefully we can get there."

On Their Long Third-Quarter TD Drive Against UCLA
We definitely will want to be able to do that. We ran the ball well. We also used the clock really well on that drive. We used the clock and were able to get a score. That made a big, big difference. Also, in the one drive (2:59 fourth quarter field goal drive) we got three points on, we used the clock really well. A lot of teams that play fast get out of rhythm and can't do that. We practice that so we can be fast, but also be a game management football team. I'm not going to just call and go and see if it works out. I've heard people say that, and I don't think that's smart. You have to practice that. You can't just all of a sudden click that on in a game. Our guys understand that. I think the kids managed that really well."

On QB Steven Montez As A Scrambler
"I don't want to see him running it too much. When they give it to us and he has the ability to pull it, read it, and see it, he is able to get down and scramble. He has done an excellent job this year in the first four games of being able to step up in the pocket and knowing when to throw it away. You haven't really seen him make a lot of those run around circle plays. He will because he has that ability. I'm not going to take that away from him. He now understands to step up in the pocket and trust the pocket. He also knows what it means to just throw it away or dump it down really quick instead of making the homerun hit. That is the maturation he's made. It has made a big difference on offense. That is also why his pass percentage has gone up."

On TB Phillip Lindsay Success In NFL
"I am really excited about Phil.  I saw one play on his touchdown run from about a yard and a half out. It was a typical Phil Lindsay play. He should have lost yardage, but he got in the end zone somehow, someway. That is Phillip. I am really excited for Phil. We text every week. I am extremely proud of him. It is not a surprise to me at all, knowing who he is, how he works and his toughness and his ability. I just wish the Broncos would have won. They didn't so they need to bounce back. I'm excited about Phillip. He will keep doing it and hopefully he will keep doing well enough to get a Head and Shoulders commercial with his hair."

Quarterback Steven Montez

On Ability To Play Fast Or Slow Offensively
"We can do it both ways. We can put together those long drives, march down the field, and do it that way or we're so explosive because we've got so much talent on the perimeter that we can hit you with a deep shot and just do it that way too. Just like that post to [WR] Laviska [Shenault Jr.]. I think however you slice it, you have to be prepared to see both types of drives every time we step out onto that field."

On His 57-Yard Touchdown Pass To Laviska Shenault Jr.
"UCLA ran a no pressure zero so it was pretty much like man (coverage), but there is no deep safety. Once I saw that and once I confirmed it was that coverage, I knew Laviska was going to widen that corner and then work across his face and go inside. Right when I saw they were in that no pressure zero, I kind of knew we had them. I just knew I needed to buy time in the pocket and give Laviska catchable ball."

On Preparing For An Aggressive Arizona State Defensive
"They are going to bring pressure. They are going to mix up their front and bring those backers. That is going to be alright because [Co-Offensive Coordinator] Coach [Klayton] Adams is doing a great job with the O-Line and sorting it all out and knowing what we are going to see and what pressures we are going to get. Obviously [QB] Coach [Kurt] Roper is working with us on knowing protections, knowing what calls are going to be called, and knowing who is going to be blocked. We will have it figured out by game time."

On Reading The Blitz
""It's all about seeing what film we're in, knowing what call we're in and knowing how we are going to set it and pick it up (the blitz). Whether it is with our 'Okie' calls or with our four-down calls. Either way I think we are protected well."

On Cracking Top 25 In Recent Polls
"Shhhhh. You have to keep that real quiet. Only (media) people in this room know that we are ranked. We (on the team) have no idea. We don't know. We are going to play it just like that and act like we aren't ranked and keep putting in the same work we have been putting in. Right now, there is no point in getting complacent with a ranking from the AP poll. It doesn't matter and doesn't get us towards our end goals. We are just going to keep working like we have all season and hopefully try to stay off social media and whatnot."

On Phillip Lindsay's Success In The NFL
"He might be a surprise to everybody else in the nation, but I feel like everybody (here) had full confidence in him, even when he didn't get drafted. When he got picked up by the Broncos, we knew that the Broncos had gotten a steal at running back. He has been all over for them and is playing phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal. I couldn't be prouder of Phil and I wish him the best for the rest of the season. He has been playing absolutely fantastic for the Broncos right now."

Linebacker Drew Lewis

On Arizona State Offense
"At the first look and based off what we saw last year and what we've seen from this year's games, we know their running back is very talented. He's a big body running back that we're going to have to wrap up. He runs thorough tackles. Their quarterback is very athletic. I remember from last year there were a couple of plays where he got away from me in the pocket. I'm not going to forget that. It's imperative that we play our roles and play up field shoulder and stay in our gaps. They are very talented, but I think we have a good idea of what to expect."

On Arizona State QB Manny Wilkins
"A lot of teams we've played this year have had mobile quarterbacks. Last year we knew he was a threat so we did a decent job of stopping him. Anytime a quarterback can run, we have to take that into account. Whether it is stepping up in the pocket or scrambling outside, we work drills on that every day. He can do some wonders with the ball."

On His Move To Outside Linebacker
"I was moved to outside linebacker a couple of weeks before the season started. That kind of took me by shock. I just tried to be resilient and be able to perform in that role. I tried my hardest. It took a couple of weeks into the season for me to really get comfortable outside. I felt like I wasn't very productive the first couple of weeks. It was about time for me to make some plays from the edge. I was glad I was able to do that last week and I hope that can carry on to the rest of the season."

On Being Able To Pressure The Quarterback From The Outside Linebacker Position
"You see it a little bit (being able to pressure the QB) from the inside position because they both sometimes come from the outraise. Now I think it's just a matter of the offense has to recognize me as a threat from the outside. It just adds more pressure to that offense. Obviously, we have the pressure from the inside with Nate [Landman] and Rick [Gamboa] so it is just making the defense more of a threat all around."

On The Defense's Pass Rush
"I think it's more consistent (compared to a year ago) because it starts up front with our defensive front. Those guys are getting more experience and are getting more comfortable playing there. We are seeing that now on game days. With that taken into account and with the inside and outside linebackers, we are getting better overall. I'm trying to get into the scheme more. We're still working on different defensive schemes, whether it is having guys looping in or guys working different combo games up front. We're working on all of that type of stuff, trying to get that pressure on the quarterback."

On Last Season's Loss At Arizona State
"We are absolutely going to remember what happened last year down there in Arizona. Our coach is telling us that we are taking this personal. We were up about twenty-one points in the fourth quarter last year and we gave that up. That is something that is going to stick with me so I'm taking that to heart. The big thing was the running game in the fourth quarter. You could tell that we were getting beat down a little bit. We were missing tackles and were knocked down some. We are moving on to this game knowing that we can't let that happen again. We have to stay strong all four quarters. That is something that is on our mind on defense."
