Weather:
- It's a sunny day in Boulder. Temperatures throughout the game are expected to be in the low 50s. Winds are coming from the west at 17 miles per hour.
- The Buffaloes look to pull off a major upset at home and get back in the conversation for the Pac-12 south division, as they face No. 8 Washington State this afternoon.
- Colorado could realistically end the Pac-12's hopes for a College Football Playoff candidate by defeating the Cougars, who have no margin for error at this point in the season.
- Senior running back Travon McMillian is 164 rushing yards away from reaching 1,000 rushing yards for the season, a feat he accomplished as a freshman in 2015.
- The Buffs will go against Washington State graduate transfer quarterback Gardner Minshew II who leads the nation in completions (329) and passing yards (3,517).
First Quarter:
- Colorado wins the coin toss and elects to defer to the second half. Washington State will receive. Davis Price's kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- Derrion Rakestraw makes an excellent pass breakup on third down to force a three-and-out to start the day for Colorado's defensive unit. Punt is downed at the CU 18-yard line. 14:04 left.
- The Buffs' offensive unit is off to a slow start. Their first drive quickly ends on just four plays, with one of them including a reception for Laviska Shenault Jr. who returns from his injury. Price's punt is fair caught at the WSU 15. 11:57 left.
- The Colorado secondary once again makes a great play. Delrick Abrams Jr. made a clean pass breakup on 4th and 2 on the edge of its red zone. On the play prior to the fourth down breakup, Mehki Blackmon crucially contributed with a breakup in the end zone on third down. A lengthy drive by the Cougars is stalled. Colorado ball at its own 20. 5:02 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. McMillian punches it in on a rush up the right side from three yards out. McMillian also got the Buffs deep into Washington State's red zone with a 64-yard rush on the second play of the drive. A quick score for the Buffaloes as they just use three plays on 80 yards lasting 48 seconds. 7-0 CU. 4:14 left. Price's kick is returned to the WSU 22.
- END OF THE FIRST QUARTER
Second Quarter:
- A 39-yard field goal attempt from Mazza is good. Washington State engineers another lengthy drive, and this time it turns into points for the Cougars. Minshew made a big completion on third down near midfield to Martin for a gain of 23 to get the Cougars in Buffalo territory. Drive took 10 plays on 57 yards lasting 5:30. 7-3 CU. 13:37 left. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- Colorado's offense starts the second quarter with a three-and-out. The Buffs ran a screen play to Shenault on first down and had room to run, but accidentally bumped into Josh Kaiser and only gained three on the play. Price's punt is downed at the WSU 24. 11:39 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Washington State. Minshew dumps it to Borghi and cruises down the right side of the field while dodging tackles for the score from 28 yards out. Caps off a seven play, 76-yard drive lasting 3:08. The Cougars strike back and take the lead. 10-7 WSU. 8:31 left. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- For the second time in a row, the Buffs' offense is unable to get past midfield and the drive stalls after five plays. Shenault, however, is getting more production this game as he has four catches for 37 yards to this point. Punt is fair caught at the WSU 15. 7:00 left.
- Colorado's defense is able to stall Washington State's drive short of midfield for the first time since the Cougars' first drive of the afternoon. Drew Lewis made a great pass breakup in man-to-man coverage on third down to force the Cougars to punt. Punt goes out of bounds at the CU 38. 4:51 left.
- Colorado goes three-and-out for the second time this afternoon. Steven Montez found Juwann Winfree down near midfield and was initially ruled a catch, but officials reviewed and overturned the call. Punt is fair caught at the WSU 26. 3:35 left.
- The Buffs' defense forces Washington State to not cross midfield for the second straight time. Minshew almost found Calvin deep downfield but Calvin couldn't grasp it. Ronnie Blackmon returns the punt to the CU 31. 2:15 left.
- Colorado's offense goes three-and-out on back-to-back drives. Both offenses aren't getting much production since the seven minute mark in the quarter. Punt is fair caught at the WSU 35. Flag for kick return interference brings the ball to the CU 49. 1:13 left.
- The Cougars go for it on 4th and 10 from the CU 38-yard line and Minshew throws it a tad high for Harris to bring it down. Washington State has gone for it on fourth down twice and haven't converted. Colorado ball at its 38 with 26 seconds left.
- END OF HALF.
Third Quarter:
- Colorado will receive the kick to start the second half. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- Not good news for the Buffs on the first drive of the half, McMillian fumbles the ball on the second play of the drive and the Cougars recover it. It's the first fumble by a Colorado running back this season. Washington State ball at the CU 32-yard line. 14:26 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Washington State. Minshew on 3rd and goal from the one-yard line, finds Bell on a cross route into the left side of the end zone for the score. The Cougars take advantage of McMillian's fumble with Minshew going 4-for-4 on the drive and extending the Washington State lead to two possessions. Drive takes seven plays on 32 yards lasting 3:30. 17-7 WSU. 10:56 left. Kick is returned by Blackmon to the CU 18.
- The Buffs drive the ball to midfield, but Shenault drops two potential completions on second and third down as the Buffs are forced to punt. Montez found Winfree for a gain of 27 to avoid a three-and-out earlier in the drive. Price's punt is fair caught at the WSU 20. 9:19 left.
- Washington State once again go for it on fourth down and come up short. The Cougars drove the ball from their own 20 to the CU 25-yard line. Minshew completed a couple of healthy gains on the drive to get into Colorado territory. Minshew had plenty of time to throw on fourth down at the CU 25 but the Colorado secondary provided good downfield coverage. CU ball at its 25. 4:20 left.
- Colorado drives into Cougar territory for the first time since the Buffs scored at the four minute mark of the first quarter. Shenault made both a reception and a rush on a double reverse for a gain of 18 yards each to get into Cougar territory. Montez then tried to find Jaylon Jackson on third down but Jackson couldn't come down with it. Price's punt is downed at the WSU 12. 2:18 left.
- END OF THIRD QUARTER.
Fourth Quarter:
- TOUCHDOWN Washington State. Minshew scrambles to his right and reaches the ball over the pylon for a 10-yard score. Minshew made completions to Patmon for gains of 10 and 48 yards on the first two plays of the drive to get the Cougars down to the Colorado 30-yard line. Caps off a seven play, 88-yard drive lasting 2:51. Washington State takes a commanding 24-7 lead with 14:27 left to play. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- The Buffs once again aren't able to get past midfield. It's the ninth time the Buffs haven't been able to do that. Colorado also had four plays on that drive, making it six total drives that the Buffs have had four or less plays on. Price's punt is fair caught at the WSU 32. 12:55 left.
- Colorado's defense makes the Cougars go three-and-out for the first time since the first drive of the game. Blackmon returns the punt to the CU 12. 11:56 left.
- Montez and company drives down to the WSU 36-yard line, only for Shenault to fumble on a four-yard reception. Montez goes 6-for-7 on the drive for a total of 56 yards on the drive. Washington State recovers the ball at its own 32. 10:10 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Washington State. Williams rushes it in up the right side from three yards out for the score. It caps off an incredibly lengthy 13 play, 68-yard drive lasting 6:24. The Cougars now have a firm grip of this game as they lead 31-7 with 3:46 left to go. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback. Sam Noyer comes into the game at quarterback.
- Noyer's throw on 3rd and 10 is intercepted by Williams and returned to the CU 32-yard line. Noyer made a 23-yard completion to Kabion Ento to get the Buffs near midfield. Cougars ball at the CU 32. 2:11 left.
