Shenault Returns To Buffs Lineup With 10 Catches, 102 Yards

BOULDER – While the Colorado Buffaloes dropped their fifth game in a row Saturday with a 31-7 loss to No. 10 Washington State, a silver lining arose in the process.

CU sophomore wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr., who missed the last three games with a turf toe injury, returned to action against the Cougars.

Shenault, who led the nation in receiving yards per game and receptions per game through six games, got back on track with a solid performance. The Desoto, Texas, prep product grabbed 10 receptions for 102 receiving yards on the day.

"It was good to see him back out there," junior quarterback Steven Montez said. "It was good to see him running around. It is good to see him healthy. He's one hell of a player as everybody knows and I think he's just going to keep getting better."

Shenault's performance had some bumps in the road though, as he had a couple of rare drops in the third quarter and a fumble in Washington State territory in the fourth quarter.

"I thought Laviska gutted it out and did well," said head coach Mike MacIntyre. "He wasn't able to practice much so you could tell that he's a little rusty."

Shenault claimed his fifth 100-yard game of the season, which is tied for the fourth-most in a single season in CU history. The school record is six, accomplished by Charles Johnson and Paul Richardson. Saturday was Shenault's first 100-yard receiving game since his performance against Arizona State, when he brought in 13 receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

"As a whole team, we have to play harder and stay focused the whole game," Shenault said. "Offensive-wise, we just need to finish."

Shenault and the Buffaloes will look to make amends for their loss when they face Utah on Senior Day next Saturday.

"(This game's) in the past now," Shenault said. "I'm ready work and ready to see this team work and come out with a win next week."
