Weather:

  • A gorgeous, sunny evening for football in Berkeley this evening as temperatures will be hovering in the high 50's at kickoff. Winds are coming from the southwest at around seven miles per hour.
Pregame:
  • It's do or die for Colorado's season as the Buffs (5-6, 2-6) will have one final opportunity to claim bowl eligibilty against the California Golden Bears (6-4, 3-4).
  • Tonight will be the coaching debut for interim head coach Kurt Roper, who is also the quarterbacks coach.

First Quarter:
  • California wins the toss and elects to defer to the second half. Colorado will receive to start the game. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
  • TOUCHDOWN California. Steven Montez' pass attempt on the third play of the drive is picked off by Hicks and returned to the end zone. Not the start the Buffs needed. 7-0 Cal. 13:49 left. Kick goes through the end zone for a touchback.
  • TOUCHDOWN California. Montez once again is picked off on third down on the third play of the drive and the interception is returned for another touchdown. 14-0 Cal. 13:04 left. Ronnie Blackmon returns the kick to the CU 25.
  • Colorado goes three-and-out on its third drive of the night. The Buffs' first two plays on the drive resulted in a loss of yardage. Alex Kinney's punt is downed at the California 26. 11:17 left.
  • Carson Wells comes up with a blowing hit on Garbers for a sack on third down to get the Bears' offense off the field, but Blackmon fumbles the punt return and the ball is recovered by the Bears at the CU 29-yard line. 9:00 left.
  • TOUCHDOWN California. Garbers finds Laird from a yard out on 4th and goal and the Bears are able to capitalize on Blackmon's mistake. California's drive after the fumble recovery lasted eight plays on 29 yards using 4:19, with the Bears having to convert two fourth downs including the touchdown pass. 21-0 Cal. 4:41 left. Blackmon returns the kick to the CU 30.
  • Colorado's next drive includes a couple of first downs, moving the ball into Cal territory thanks to Montez and Kyle Evans rushing the ball to move the chains. CU's drive is halted, however, at the Cal 45. Kinney's punt is downed at the Cal 12-yard line with two minutes left.
  • The Buffs will get the ball back before time expires in the quarter as the defense allows just five plays on the last Cal drive not letting them get into CU territory. Punt is downed at the CU 31-yard line. 21 seconds left.
  • END OF THE FIRST QUARTER

Second Quarter:
  • TOUCHDOWN Colorado. The Buffs visit the red zone for the first time tonight and they execute with a one-yard rush by Evans into the end zone. Montez made some crucial throws for big gains to Kabion Ento for 26 yards and to Laviska Shenault Jr. for 22 yards. Drive lasted nine plays on 69 yards using 3:49. Buffs cut the deficit to two scores. 21-7 Cal. 11:26 left. Davis Price's kick is returned to the Cal 28.
  • Colorado's defense forces the second three-and-out of the night for the Bears, but this time K.D. Nixon was back to return the punt and fumbles it. Cal recovers it yet again and the Bears start back up at the CU 15-yard line. 10:24 left.
  • The Buffs' defense allows just three plays and forces the Bears to kick a 24-yard field goal from the left hash. Kick is up and good. Both Israel Antwine and Javier Edwards combined for a sack on 2nd and goal. Cal leads 24-7 with 8:14 left. Blackmon returns the kick to the CU 33.
  • Colorado gets into California territory thanks to a 14-yard rush from Montez and a nine-yard completion to Shenault, but Montez throws his third interception of the night and the Bears take over at their 29-yard line with 4:21 left.
  • Colorado's defense is able to keep the Bears in check again by halting a California drive in its own territory. Terrance Lang, however, had an errant ball thrown by Garbers fall right into his chest with daylight ahead of him on third down but he couldn't bring it in. Cal punt is fair caught by Blackmon at the CU 15. 1:54 left.
  • The Buffs are unable to produce a scoring opportunity in the waning moments of the first half as they only run four plays and only get to their 21-yard line. Kinney's punt is fair caught at the Cal 40. 30 seconds left.
  • Colorado forces the Bears to go three-and-out for the third time tonight. Punt is downed inside the five and the Buffs kneel down to end the first half.
  • END OF HALF.

Third Quarter:
  • Cal receives the kickoff to start the second half. Kick is returned to the Cal 15.
  • The Colorado defense gets off to a good start for the half as they force Cal's fourth three-and-out of the night. Blackmon returns the punt to the CU 40. 13:27 left.
  • TOUCHDOWN Colorado. The Buffs are right back in this ball game as K.D. Nixon scores on a 24-yard reception and makes up for his earlier mistake on the punt return to make it 24-14 Cal with 10:15 left. It caps off a methodical drive with two third down conversions. Drive lasted nine plays on 60 yards using 3:12.
  • Mustafa Johnson claims his first sack of night and it's an important one, as he forces the fifth three-and-out for the night for the Colorado defense. Punt is downed at the CU 9-yard line. 8:21 left. The Buffs look to make things interesting on their next drive.
  • Montez tried to connect with Nixon deep down the left sideline on third down but the throw is slightly off the mark and falls off of Nixon's hands. It's the second three-and-out for the Buffaloes tonight and the Bears return the punt to midfield. 6:50 left.
  • The Bears marched down into the red zone after an unnecessary roughness penalty on Dante Wigley after a California first down. The Colorado defense, however, made sure that the Bears only came away with three points as the Buffs are still in a two possession game. California makes a 33-yard field goal to make it a 27-14 game with 4:49 left. Evans returns the kick to the CU 21.
  • TOUCHDOWN Colorado. Montez scrambles to his right and finds Juwann Winfree from three yards out to cut CU's deficit to six. Montez was able to get the ball quickly out of his hands and get it to the likes of Shenault and Nixon for big gains, leading the Buffs into the red zone. Drive lasted 10 plays on 79 yards using 4:08. Colorado is now in striking distance. Price's kick is returned to Cal 28.
  • END OF THE THIRD QUARTER.

Fourth Quarter:
  • TOUCHDOWN California. Garbers throws a nicely-weighted ball to Ways in the left corner of the end zone from seven-yards out and Ways is able to get one foot in bounds for the score. It will go down as a squandered opportunity for the Colorado defense as Drew Lewis made a late hit out of bounds after initially stalling the Bears on third down in the red zone. The California drive lasted 11 plays on 72 yards using five minutes. Two-point conversion is no good. 33-21 Cal. 10:28 left. Evans returns the kick to the CU 27.
  • After an excellent grab from Brady Russell on an 18-yard reception, Colorado runs just three more plays and is unable to get into Cal territory. Kinney's punt is fair caught at the Cal 17-yard line. 8:05 left.
  • The Bears don't score on their next drive but take plenty of time off the clock as they drain 4:46 off the clock and force CU to take all its timeouts. It's CU ball now at its own 10 with 3:19 remaining.
  • Montez attempted to find Winfree deep down the right sideline of fourth down at midfield but it falls incomplete. The Bears will take over and line up in victory formation.
  • END OF GAME.
