Leonard, Billing and Paul Named UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week

Kennedy Leonard, Alexander Billing and Yannik Paul have been named this week's UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week following their outstanding performances last weekend.
 
Senior Yannik Paul led the men's golf team to a third-place team finish at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, placing fifth individually after recording a 9-under 54-hole score of 207. He stood in 14th after two rounds of play, but shot 67 on the final day to climb to fifth on the leaderboard. Paul opened his stellar final round by posting a 30 on the front nine, making him just fourth golfer in CU history to shoot 30 on a side. In total, Paul collected 14 birdies, 35 pars, and just five bogeys over three rounds of play. 

Junior Alexander Billing joined elite company at Friday's Air Force Collegiate Open. He took first place in the 60-meter hurdles, setting a new personal-record time of 7.98 seconds. Billing becomes one of just two CU hurdlers to clock a sub-eight second 60-meter time this decade. His time of 7.98 is the seventh fastest in the MPSF this year, while it is tied for the third fastest 60-meter hurdle time in CU history.

Junior Kennedy Leonard led the Buffs to a pair of wins over Washington and Washington State this weekend, averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 assists, while forcing seven steals over the two games. She scored 14 points and tied a career-high 13 assists in Friday's win over Washington; amidst her career-day, Leonard became just the third CU player to eclipse 500 career assists, and broke the CU record for assists in a quarter (7) and half (10). Then in Sunday's win over Washington State, Leonard recorded a game-high 15 points, including a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to seal a 72-69 win.

Sophomore Robyn Choi tied for third at last week's Puerto Rico Classic, posting a three-round score of 220. Choi shot 2-over par in Tuesday's final round to climb two spots on the leaderboard, making this her fourth top-5 finish during the 2017-18 season.
 
Competing in the NorAm Cup slalom race held in Stowe, Vt., sophomore David Ketterer finished second in Friday's race with a two-run time of 1:48.48. He finished just 0.31 seconds behind race winner Michael Ankeny of the U.S. Ski Team. Ketterer was the 2016-17 NorAm series slalom champion, but was making just his third NorAm Cup slalom appearance this winter.
 
Senior Darby Kiernan recorded a team-high five points in the Buffs' 15-8 loss at Northwestern on Friday. She scored the team's only goal of the first half, before recording a goal and three assists during a second half run that brought CU to within 11-7. Kiernan also recorded a game-high nine draw controls.
