Lervik And Siewert Named UCHealth CU Athletes Of The Week

February 27, 2018 | General, Men's Basketball, Skiing

BOULDER - Anne Siri Lervik and Lucas Siewert have been named this week's UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week for their performances in women's Nordic and men's basketball.

Sophomore Anne Siri Lervik led the Colorado women's Nordic team by hitting the podium in both the 5K classic races and the 15K freestyle at the RMISA Championships that CU hosted over the weekend in Steamboat Springs, Colo. She became the first women's Nordic skier to hit the podium in both races at the regional championship since 2013 – a year that saw the Buffs sweep the podium in both races. Lervik now has five podium finishes in her career and three of those have come in the RMISA Championships. Last winter she finished third in the 5K classic race held in Minturn, Colo. and was CU's top scorer overall on the women's side last season. As she heads off to compete in her first NCAA Championship on March 7th through the 10th back in Steamboat, she has a lot of momentum on her side. Lervik has finished in the top five in eight consecutive races, the best streak of any Nordic skier, male or female.

Sophomore Lucas Siewert averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while hitting 56 percent from the field off the bench as the Buffaloes went 1-1 last week. He scored 16 points and had a personal-best eight rebounds in a loss to USC. He followed that up with 15 points and five rebounds in a win against UCLA. Siewert set career-highs in both free throws made and attempted by hitting 7 of 8 versus UCLA. He was a perfect 4 of 4 from 3-point range (hitting two in each game) and 9 of 11 from the free throw line (.818).

Also nominated for this week's award: Kennedy Leonard (women's basketball), Darby Kiernan (lacrosse)
Junior Kennedy Leonard averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 assists in two road games for the women's basketball team. She had 11 assists, seven points and three steals in a 73-67 loss at No. 10 UCLA on Thursday. In the game, she eclipsed her school-record season assists total that she set in 2016-17, and now has 195 on the year. It was also her eighth career game with over 10 assists. Leonard led the team in scoring (19), rebounds (5) and assists (5) on Saturday in a loss at USC.

Darby Kiernan recorded a season-high five goals in the 17-12 victory over the Aztecs, which included one free-position goal and two unassisted goals. The senior attacker from Ridgewood, N.J. put seven of her eight shots on goal and recorded half of CU's 20 draw controls. Her 10 draw control performance marked the third time in four games this season she has recorded at least 10 draw controls.
