WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross Department of Athletics named Steve Pizzi as its new Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities, Operations and Events, director of athletics Nathan Pine announced Thursday.
Pizzi has spent the last five years at the University of Colorado, including the last two as the Assistant Athletic Director of the Coors Events Center and Game day Operations. He was responsible for the daily operations of the arena, including the research, development and management of capital projects and renovations, as well as coordination, maintenance and upkeep of technical support systems. In addition, he coordinated and managed game day operations, as well as the guest services experience on game day, for several CU sports.
Pizzi will begin his tenure with Holy Cross on April 10 and will join the athletics senior staff with primary responsibilities of providing leadership and oversight to the facilities, operations and events staff on a day-to-day basis. He will also oversee the management of athletics facilities, game operations and outside events for Holy Cross' athletics program and will assume sport supervision duties.
"I would like to thank Phil DiStefano, Rick George and the University of Colorado for the last five years and the opportunity that they gave me here. I will truly cherish my time here as well as the friends that I have made."
"We are excited to welcome Steve to the Holy Cross family," said Pine. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience and a strong background in facilities and operations to our organization, and we know he will be a great fit here at Holy Cross."
"I would like to thank Nathan Pine for this tremendous opportunity," said Pizzi. "The College of the Holy Cross is nationally recognized as one of the top liberal arts institutions in the country. I am extremely honored to become part of the Holy Cross community and to begin working with the great student-athletes, coaches and staff at the College."
Prior to his time at Colorado, Pizzi was the Director of Athletic Facilities and Operations at Villanova University from 2007-13, where he had similar duties to those at CU. He also spent a year (2006-07) at Seton Hall University as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations, where he was in charge of the daily operations and scheduling of all athletic facilities. Before Seton Hall, Pizzi saw previous stops at Columbia University, where he served in advancing roles from 2002-06, and Villanova, where he worked as an athletic facilities assistant from 2001-02.
A graduate of Neumann University in Aston, Pa., Pizzi was a four-year letterwinner in men's lacrosse and earned his bachelor's degree in sport management with a minor in business administration in 2001. He went on to earn his master's degree in higher education administration from Columbia in 2005. He and his wife, Erin, have two sons, Sebastian and Giorgio.
