April 25, 2018 | General, Tennis, Track and Field, Lacrosse

BOULDER - Brigitte Beck, Darby Kiernan, and Zach Perrin have all been named this week's UCHealth CU Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances in tennis, lacrosse, and track and field.

Junior Brigitte Beck led CU to a 4-3 win over Utah on Saturday, its first win over the Utes since joining the Pac-12. Beck and teammate Chloe Hule upset 65th ranked Jena Cheng and Alexia Petrovic 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, the first win for a CU doubles team over a ranked opponent this season. Beck then won the clinching singles match, defeating Victoria Robertson 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Senior Darby Kiernan recorded nine points (six goals and three assists) on senior day to help the Buffs defeat Oregon (19-9) this past Friday. The win made CU the inaugural regular season Pac-12 Champions. CU also finished a perfect 7-0 at Kittredge Field, marking the second straight season the Buffs have not lost there. Kiernan's six goals is tied for the third most in a single game in CU history and the nine points is tied for the second most in CU single game history. In addition to the nine points, she also recorded five draw controls and one ground ball.

Junior distance runner Zach Perrin ran the men's 5,000-meter in Palo Alto this weekend and finished just barely behind the NCAA champion Grant Fisher in Fisher's home town. His time is the second-fastest in the Pac-12 this season by less than half a second.

Also nominated this week: Maja Wichhart-Donzo (Women's track and field), Valerie Constien (Women's track and field), Andrew Ghizzone (Men's track and field).

Junior Maja Wichhart-Donzo competed in the heptathlon this weekend in Azusa, recording several new personal bests on both the track and the field. In the shotput she came within two centimeters of her projected PR and in the high jump she almost cleared the next height. She is getting very close to qualifying for the NCAAs.

Senior distance runner Valerie Constien ran the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase this weekend in Stanford. She clocked in at 10:15.15, almost 10 seconds faster than her projected time.

Senior Andrew Ghizzone recorded several PR's this weekend in Azusa, and most of the men he was competing against in his section were All-American athletes. Overall in his group he placed ninth for the decathlon.
