CU to have 10 matches televised on Pac-12 Networks

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado's soccer team will have 10 nationally-televised matches on Pac-12 Networks during the 2018 season, the networks announced on Wednesday. The Buffs will have two non-conference matches and eight Pac-12 matches on the networks.

CU released its non-conference schedule two weeks ago, and among those competitions, the Missouri and Denver matches have both been selected to be televised. The Missouri match kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, while the DU match will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.

The Buffs will play their first three Pac-12 matches on the road this fall, opening play on TV with a 5 p.m. MT kickoff at Oregon State on Friday, Sept. 21. The second weekend of conference action is in Arizona, with the Buffs playing at ASU on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m., a non-televised match. The Arizona match on Sept. 30 will be the second televised Pac-12 match for CU, starting at 1 p.m.

CU then returns home for two weekends and three matches. Only one of those three will be televised, that being Sunday, Oct. 7, against Washington with a 2 p.m. kickoff at Prentup Field. That match in the middle of the homestand follows the Pac-12 home opener on Thursday, Oct. 4, against Washington State at 3:30 p.m. CU concludes the series of home matches against Oregon on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The remaining five regular-season matches will all be televised. The Buffs play at California at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, and at defending national champion Stanford at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. The final three regular-season matches are at home, beginning with Southern California at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. UCLA visits Prentup Field on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m., and CU wraps up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 2, against Utah at 3 p.m.

Stanford looks to be the favorite in the Pac-12 again after winning the national championship a year ago and finishing 24-1-0 overall, including a perfect 11-0-0 in the Pac-12. The Cardinal return seven all-conference players, including Pac-12 Defender of the Year Tierna Davidson and Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and Forward of the Year Catarina Macario.

UCLA will also contend after reaching the national championship match, falling 3-2 in the final. The Bruins return four all-conference players, led by first-team selections Jessie Fleming, Hailie Mace and Ashley Sanchez.

Southern California won the national championship two seasons ago and went 15-3-2 last season, tying UCLA for second in the Pac-12. Three all-conference players return for the Trojans.

The Buffs will also compete for a championship this season. They return nine of their 11 starters from last season, including their top four goal scorers, along with all-region and All-Pac-12 goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins. Marty Puketapu scored a team-high eight goals and added two assists as a freshman in 2017. Junior Taylor Kornieck has already been named All-Pac-12 twice in her career, and scored seven goals with four assists as a sophomore. Tatum Barton had six goals coming off the bench as a sophomore and midfielder Megan Massey added four, along with six assists during her junior campaign a year ago.

Also returning to the starting lineup from 2017 are midfielders Cassie Phillips and Sarah Kinzner, along with defenders Kelsey Aaknes, Erin Greening, Alex Vidger and Hannah Cardenas.

The team also welcomes back three offensive players who sat out with injuries. Jorian Baucom is healthy for her senior season and was an All-SEC performer after scoring 33 goals in three seasons at LSU before sitting out last season with an injury. Stephanie Zuniga led the Buffs with six assists as a sophomore in 2016, before missing last season. Libby Geraghty started CU's season opener last year, but was injured late in the match. She was among the top-rated forwards nationally in the 2017 recruiting class.

Head coach Danny Sanchez returns for his seventh season with CU and has a 70-44-15 (.601) record, leading the Buffs past the first round of the NCAA Tournament four times already. Over the past two seasons, CU has gone 13-6-3 (.659) in Pac-12 matches under Sanchez.

The Buffs went 12-6-4 overall and 5-4-2 in the Pac-12 last year. They reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five seasons.

Eight of CU's opponents this season made the NCAA Tournament last season, including five that visit Boulder this season (Utah Valley, Denver, Washington State, Southern California and UCLA).

Season tickets are on sale now at CUBuffs.com at three different levels, starting at just $35. Single-match tickets will be available later this summer.

The Women's Sports Pass is also available for just $125. That package includes season tickets to all women's sports teams at CU.
