Five Earn UCHealth CU Athlete of the Week Honors in May and June

Robin Choi, Yannik Paul, Erin Clark, Zach Perrin and Val Constein each collected UCHealth CU Athlete of the Week honors during the months of May and June. Golfers Robyn Choi and Yannik Paul were recognized for the week of May 14-20 after their outstanding performances at NCAA competitions. Then, during the week of May 21-27, senior distance runners Erin Clark and Zach Perrin earned the honor for stellar showings at the NCAA West Preliminary meet. In the final week of Colorado's athletic season (June 4-10), Val Constien took home athlete of the week honors after a top-5 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase NCAA Championship.
Choi, a sophomore from Queensland, Australia, finished 21stoverall at the NCAA Championship, shooting a 4-over 292 on the par-72 Karsten Creek Golf Club. Her 21stplace finish is the highest in school history at an NCAA Championship, while she also set records for best 18-hole score (70 – 3rdround), 54-hole score (220), and 72-hole score (292). Choi's performance helped the Buffs finish 19thnationally, the best since 2011-12. In total, Choi set or tied 13 school records during a stellar sophomore season.
Paul, a senior from Viernheim, Germany, shot a 4-under 212 to finish tied for 12that the NCAA Men's Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park. He finished the tournament with 14 birdies, sixth most among the 75-man field, while scoring fifth-best on par-3s holes. As his illustrious collegiate career comes to a close, Paul holds 20 CU records, including single-season stroke average (70.24), as well as most tournaments under par in a season (9) and career (22).
Clark, a senior from Eugene, Oregon, set a new personal record (15:30.59) in the 5k at the NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento, finishing eighth to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field. She also secured a place in the 10,000-meter final, coming in seventh with a 32:28.88 time. Clark would go on to finish ninth nationally in the 10k and 13thin the 5k, earning second-team All-American recognition in both events.
Perrin, a senior from Kalispell, Montana, hit his stride in the 5,000, finishing ninth (13:50.83) at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento and securing his place in the NCAA Championship. Then in the final race of his collegiate career at the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., Perrin raced to 19thplace, his second top-20 finish nationally in the 5k.
Constien, a junior from Edwards, Colorado, capped off a breakout outdoor season at the NCAA Championship, where she finished fifth nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:48.40. Her time of 9:48.40 in the NCAA Championship final was nearly an entire minute faster than her 10:41.36 time in the same event at the 2017 NCAA Championship. Constien also shed two seconds off of her seventh-place championship prelim time, earning a top-5 finish and her first collegiate All-American honors.
