Senior Gillian Vance Qualifies For U.S. Women’s Amateur

BOULDER — University of Colorado senior Gillian Vance has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur, while incoming freshman Kelsey Webster was in the hunt for the final qualifying spot but ended up as the second alternate.
 
Vance tied for second at the qualifier in Westminster, Colo. on June 27, after shooting 1-under, 71, at the 6,457-yard Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, while Webster shot even (72).  
 
The day started with Vance scoring a bogey before back-to-back pars on the second and third holes. She recorded a birdie on the No. 4 to break even and made par on five straight holes to finished out the front nine.
 
Vance held steady on the back nine, making par on seven consecutive holes, before earning her second birdie of the day on No. 17 to go 1-under (66). She finished out the day making par for the 15th time.
 
Webster made par on No. 1 and went 2-over after a double-bogey on No. 2. She settled down and was able to finish the first nine holes 1-over (37) with a pair of back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6. The back nine saw Webster continuing her strong play with six pars, two birdies and one bogey.
 
Sara Camarena won the event at 2-under (70).
 
The U.S. Women's Amateur will take place August 6-12, at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
